I think I'll keep him

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

My husband said he'd build me a greenhouse like this one, instead of me buying a plastic one. What a guy! I think I'll keep him. I don't know why he puts up with me, but I'm sure glad he does.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

WOW .... what a wonderful greenhouse. Your husband did a super job and I know you must be thrilled. I love the way he vented the upper sides to let out the heat.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I need a guy like that

I didn't marry well ...did I?

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

He hasn't built it yet. That's a picture of a finished one from the place that sells the plans. http://www.hobby-greenhouse.com/
We went looking at redwood for the base.

You must be so excited Mary. What a great husband you have to want to build that for you.
I can't wait to see your GH when it's done. Congrats!

Mary in LA - Is it going to be okay or is the damage too bad to save? So much heartbreak in your State these days. You've all been in my prayers.

Thanks Terry, I know how lucky I am. He's a great guy and he lets me go a little crazy with my hobbies. He even helps anytime I need it.

That's just what I want. Problem is that where I want to put it there are several trees that would have to come down. My yard is small, and there's no way to get a truck to the back yard. Everything would have to be 'carried out (trees) and in (gh material).

MaryLA, good to see you back online. Are you at home? I watched the video you had when you built the gh. That was fun to watch.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Nope, greenhouse is a total loss :-(

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Mary-
will you be able to collect insurance, and rebuild your greenhouse?

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Yes, insurance covers it, but won't be able to rebuild before this winter. We are probably gonna move further north after this.

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

So sorry for all the loss/destruction. Mother nature was not being nice. It's so heartbreaking.
==============================
The Bobcat is coming on Friday. We're filling in the pool, which my husband has wanted to do for a few years. (In ground vinyl) When it's all compacted we'll put the greenhouse there. It's win/win because he gets rid of the pool, and I have room for a bigger greenhouse. The plans are expandable.

The bad thing is that a lot of my roses have to be dug up and relocated or destroyed. A lot of work. Some that have been poor performers I'll just let go - chop chop. The scary thing is I have to relocate 3 of my brugs who had gotten accustomed to that area by the pool Hope they don't act up too much because of the move. EP had buds on it, for the 3rd time this year.

If you have any questions about the construction, contact me, as we have done it, and the plans aren't very clear and I think there were some mistakes on them.

One thing I would change if I had to do it over is to make the side walls taller, so the roof would be higher. I think the plans call to make the side walls 4 feet high, but if I was gonna build another one, I would make them at least 5 feet, give more head room in the greenhouse.

Here is the construction video Linda was referring to.

This was so fun to watch, I'll probably watch it again. Although, it will be sad to see all the activity knowing the outcome of it all.

Mary in CA, I know you're going to love it. I want one JUST LIKE THAT and I think the higher head room would be wonderful.

Mary in LA, hope you can get your life straightened out and get another one too. This time you can make the improvements like more head room.

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

They still haven't sent us the plans. We ordered them a few weeks ago. The ones you can see on line aren't very detailed. Thanks for the advice Mary. My husband has been toying with ideas to modify it a bit. He's very handy. Hope you can get things back to something resembling "normal" real soon.
Will be praying for you and your neighbors too.

Mary
