Hello and Welcome to Dave's Garden. We always like seeing new gardners join us. :)
Daylilies are a good plant for erosion control on slope land. What types of gardens have you started and what types of plants do you like? Do you have full sun areas or some shady areas too?

morehead, KY(Zone 6a)

I have started what is called a german garden. It is filled with daylilly, iris, liatris, yucca, joepye and sedums with a few plants i.m trying out . i have lost hundreds of dollars trying plants that could handle dry full sun conditions. My other gardens have been amended but i have to keep it up using organic items. This bed is on a small slope and edges my drive on one side i am allowing a meadow to develop with the same plants as german garden with lots of butterfly weed added. The german garden edges the other side of drive and slopes toward my house. .This area is where they scraped my land to make driveway so what little top soil there was has been moved to side. Any suggestion will be helpful
THANKS! george P.S. there is no plant i dont like except morning glory i'm still paying for that mistake from 3 years ago

Do you know which irises?

As for you original question, what are your goals for the garden? Do you want to get it set up right away or are you willing to spend some time on transitional crops? How much area do you have to plant?

Hi and welcome to DG's.. I am interested in your white Daff's and Iris. I have a purple/lavender Iris, Anise Hyysop Licorice, different colors of Achillea.

George, Winnie's anise hyssop and achillea (yarrow) should perform well under your conditions.

I think your white daffs are 'Mt. Hood'.

Have fun! Neal.

Hi George! Throw in some Grasses! I have full sun and lots of clay and I after they are established don't even water them. Switchgrass and miscanthus are easy to find! Rosemary is another plant that doesn't need a lot of water. I have one near my mailbox that rarely gets attention. There is another purple plant that loves clay. Soon I as can remember the name I will post it! Wildflowers such as coneflower, rudbeckia, and such can also take quite a bit of abuse!

Curry plant also does very well poor dry soil I have a rather steep bank that is basically sandstone and very little soil that the curry palnts have trived in, people can't believe how well they have done.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Baptista! That was the plant I was thinking of. I don't have one but have heard raves about it and clay. Had to go ask before I remembered the name.

Good luck!

George, Baptisia is the blue lupine like plant I gave you. Mine has seed pods, but I've never seen volunteers. You're welcome to the seed though; maybe someone has suggestions how to germinate them? Neal.
