What A Night!!

Paris, TX(Zone 8a)

There seems to be no end of stories to tell about these cats. I was in the process of letting Tigra out, when one of my wilder ferals slipped past me, and got in. Now some of you already know the story of Sable and what happened then. This cat (I call him Scruffy) wouldn't let himself be caught, and when he went to the door and wanted out, it was already shut because of my indoor only cats. I went to open it for him, but when he saw me, he ran and hid.......you guessed it.....in the same whole behind the stove. It was like reliving the saga of Sable all over again. He wasn't going to budge, and we didn't push, because we didn't want him to get stuck the way she did. We ended up, closing Merlin and Morty up in our room with food and a litter box, and closing up Abby and Annie in the spare room with a litter box and food. We later had to move Morty to the room with Annie and Abby, because he and Merlin were fussing.
Then we set the trap in the kitchen by the stove. We were hoping that when we went to bed, and the house got quiet for the night, he'd venture out and we'd catch him. This was a very loooong night for me, because, I don't sleep at night. I usually go to bed when Dave leaves at 4:30am and get up when he gets home at noon. Needless to say, I was very antsy not being able to watch tv or play with my computer. I went into the room with Abby, Annie, and Morty, where all my books are, and I read plant books until I finally fell asleep on the guest bed. I promise DH and I weren't fighting. lol that's just where I fell asleep. I'm glad I went in there, because Abby was trying desparately to get out, but she calmed down and finally went to sleep when I came in there. I guess she was just feeling a little abandoned.

I was awakened by the sound of metal crashing. Thinking it was the trap, I got up and ran to the kitchen, to find that it was noon, and DH was home...and the kitchen was a mess. He told me he got the cat outside, and he's fine. Here is the story of how...
When Dave got home, he turned on the oven (yes, I was horrified, too), and opened the back door. then he stood there, shooing other feral cats away, until Scruffy got uncomfortable enough to come out. At first, he jumped on the cabnet, and I guess tried to open the window, because the sound I heard was my container of stainless steel cooking spoons hitting the floor. I guess that startled him enough to make him jump down, and the minute he noticed the opened door, he was out in a flash. Whew!! What a mess.

I'm happy to report that Scruffy is fine, my indoor cats are now enjoying the run of the house, and I managed to put the kitchen back together. I can laugh about the whole thing now, but at the time, I was really a mess. lol
