Hey all, I am sure this is a common butterfly but this is my first year gardening and I cant identify anything yet so hopefully someone here can tell me what it is. I live on the west coast and its feeding on a Zinnia. Thanks in advance. =)
Butterfly ID Please
Looks like a "painted lady" to me, latin name Vanessa cardui.

Edited to say that the "American lady" butterfly is quite similar but has different "eye spots" on the bottom wing. You can do a search on it on that website that I gave the link for - you can see pictures and compare the spots and see what I mean. They're quite similar but yours looks like the painted lady to me, based on those spots.
