My yard

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Here is the corner of my yard, the ficus trees froze at Christmas, but everything else is doing good.

One part of the lower fence, that's a podranea vine just starting to flower and a clerodendron ugandense is behind it but I don't think it showed up too well.
I thought I'd taken a picture of the east side of the yard, but I can't find it.

Susie, all your hard work has really paid off because it is so beautiful. I cannot get over how much everything has grown and filled out since I saw it last year and I know the pictures probably do not do it justice. I can only imagine standing on your patio looking out at the whole back yard and taking the complete view in. It is hard to encompass everything in a photo. Your place is truly turning into a tropical paradise.

Thanks Frannie, I'm trying! I want it to be a jungle but Bill said I have to leave some grass. I'll try and take a picture so you can see what I see from the patio. I was down by the water yesterday and looking up toward the house. I realized it's turned out pretty good.

Vossner, Bleu was helping me garden this weekend and dug a little spot in the garden. He has his "spots" in the garden, nice shady spots, no mulch or plants so he can dig in the dirt and lie down. I had just been bragging to hubby about how Bleu had his 4 spots in the gardens and he was being soooooo good and not digging or smashing my plants and Bill looked up and started laughing so hard! Then I saw Bleu. He's now got 5 spots in the garden that are his(he knew he was a bad doggie, he was so pitiful).

LOL.......you can leave grass for walkways and plant the rest. I can just see all these winding paths through your back yard now. If your lawmower has a 42" cut then I would make the pathways that wide and it would be interesting mowing for Bill. I have a feeling that you have a plan and little by little you will eventually have that groomed jungle that you want.

I bet it was amazing to see all of it from the very back by the water and it does make one feel good when they see the beauty of all their dedicated hard work. I hope you are still enjoying your pool and are taking some time to relax a little in between your job and hugh task of maintaining your yard.

I do try to take time to jump in the pool, it's a great way to cool off when I get too hot gardening.
Here's the banana to the left of the pool.

This is a Dutchman's pipevine, Aristolochia gigantea. It's covering a 32 ft section of fence.

Looking toward the neighbor's house on the east side. The A. gigantea is on this fence. It's grown over and thru the fence and big blooms are hanging on the other side.

you can accidently spray roundup on the grass
then when it suddenly ups and dies just say gee...dunno what happened
then when he's out of town......

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Beautiful..

I need you to come and help me with our large yard to fill up with tropicals.. LOL.. Being myself is hard work..

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

CC, I did that two weeks ago........"oh gee Bill, don't know why that grass died in that area, must not be good ground for grass. I'll plant flowers there!"
Mini, I've dug the beds myself with a shovel, planted all the plants except a couple of trees( I had to get help with the trees). My neighbor felt sorry for me last weekend, he came over and dug a big hole and planted an erythrina bush that had been sitting in the same spot for a month.
We have 1.6 acres of lawn plus the land around the resaca and one of these days I'll have it all planted! I don't think I can plant by the resaca, there are crabs everywhere and they eat stuff.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

What is it with grass and husbands? My husband gets downright territorial about his grass which by the way is all dead and not lush like yours.

I just love it all Susie. I should really move before I get too old to have a real garden with lots of twists and turns and garden rooms.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I just set my horses loose on the grass.......
their hooves are good rototillers

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

and here I was ALMOST feeling sorry for you......
when I heard about your gardening woes down there.

Then you go and run these shots!

It's GORGEOUS!

Plant by the resaca. EAT the crabs!

Better plan....................plant crabgrass for Bill!

Kell, come on down, property is still cheaper here than in California! Don't know what it is about men and grass, but he doesn't even like it when I mow, said something about I went backwards........I left a streak in the grass???
CC, I was afraid the horses would eat the flowers too.
Ric, I didn't show you the chewed leaves and the weeds and the dead plants.......I need sympathy, lots of sympathy.
p.s. the crabs are fiddler crabs, not enough meat to bother with trying to eat them and poor Bill would be beside himself if he saw crabgrass.

Louisville, KY

Last years pic I will have to put some up of this years. I have tons of pics of this yard over the years.
