I don't know who first posted a pic of impatiens growing bare-root in the waterfall stream of a pond but I thought I'd try it. here are the results from a few straggly leftovers planted in the record breaking July heat.
Hey info like this is why I pay the big bucks to belong here LOL!
impatient impatiens
next season I disguise the filter GLWATCDR
Wow, those suckers are going to town, kik!!!! Find a way to layer them and you have yourself a seasonal solution to disguising that filter! :o)
(a rock garden would probably be less messy, tho)
Let's see the rest of the pond!
Nice job, kiki!!!!!!
Where'd you find that CocaCola barrel???
Very cool pond! The bridge is great, too.
kikisdad really neat pond and especially the bridge. How many years ago did you build it. DonnaS
Donna,
I started on that pond 4 years ago. Didn't put any fish in it the second year, just one lily that I got from tiG on DG. Then 2 years ago we put 6 veiltail Goldfish in it and now there are about 20. Also added the cattail from our big earthen dam pond and 2 more lilies from Lowes. Looks like a lifelong project to me LOL.
kikisdad, you did a wonderful job making that pool. Did you have to buy all the rocks. Actually I didn't have to buy my rocks exactly. I paid the fellow who works for me when I have the money and he has the time and has done so for more than 15 years, toget the rocks from an area in the hills near where he lives, and to haul them here and then to put them in place.
When you learn how to put multiple photos in one post please explain it to me.
My fellow and I built my two pools 10 years ago, neither of us knowing anything much about building pools. I had built a small one with a waterfall all out of rocks and cement in 1957. i reinforced the cement with chicken wire mesh, lasted about 35 years, then with freezing winter weather, etc. the wire finally rusted and the pool cracked. I patched it and was still pretty good for a couple of years.
I also built a small pool using pool liner in the same yard just a couple of years before I sold the house.
I will go out and take a picture of my pools now, I think the lighting is okay. DonnaS
rutholive, your ponds are beautiful.I didn't buy any of the rocks. Some came from the hole when I dug it ,some from a nearby creek and the big dish shaped one my older son helped me get from a different creek where we were drilling a well for a customer. I also built a couple fake boulders with wire hardware cloth and concrete like you did. Works pretty well.
Thanks. I do enjoy the ponds. Have one koi that i bought last year, and 3 large goldfish that I brought with me when I moved 10 years ago, there are now probably 35 goldfish of different ages, all from the 3 that i brought with me. They are at least 12 or 13 years old. I only bought the one koi because I was afraid a kingfisher or a herron might fly by and stop. So far as far as I know they haven't found my little ponds. The koi was about 6" when I bought him /it and now is at least 10 or 11 inches. Stays pretty much right with the goldfish.
The rocks that are on my 5 acres are the round bullhead type, not very pretty, but I've used them for retaining walls. Don't look too bad with evergreens flowing over them.
DonnaS
You both have beautiful ponds!
Fabulous job! Luv the entrance to the pond. It is very inviting!
