Hello All.
I never let our short growing season prevent me from trying tropicals and semi-tropicals in my gardens!

Castor Beans in Minnesota!
Erick,
With Castor Bean trees, there is no such thing as a short growing season. And the put out enough seeds you never have a shortage.
Gee Whiz, I thought I had gathered every last seed and a hurricane came by and got the rest. I have castors growing in my cannas and daylilies now!
Aren't they great? And yours loks fantastic.

being a minnesota yankee that surprise's me.. never thought would.. you got it going..
Wow, now the one on the left looks like the one I have but the one on the right, the tall one with the huge leaves, now that's cool! Any seeds of that one? Or is that the same plant?
Thank you very much Molly. I agree, castor beans are great. They are getting a lot of attention from my neighbors!
Debi, there are actually six castor bean plants there, three red and three green. The red have been blooming all summer, and the green have been GROWING all summer. I just noticed the first flower buds on the tallest green castor yesterday. Hopefully they'll have time to bloom before our first frost.
Thank you henry10, mystic, hope43 and Calif_Sue. It's always nice to have one's efforts appreciated! It's always fun to push the zones some, and it usually works!
Erick
