Hi everyone.

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

We are new to the board but wanted to say hello and for those that can handle tropicals keep an eye out for our trade list. We are zone 11 so all of our plants need either a greenhouse or constant warmth. When I get everything together as far as our trade list, I will put another post up.

Welcome to DG!! I subscribed last January, and I'm having a ball here. You'll find a bunch of fellow tropicals enthusiasts. Do you like African Violets? There's a forum for them, with frequent trading of leaves & plantlets.

I know tighter customs regulations have made it iffy to send plants & seeds out of the country in some cases, so if you could check to see what the rules are for sending stuff to/from PR, that would be helpful!

I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your tropical paradise... I know I will have a bad case of zone envy! :-)

The good thing is that Puerto Rico is a territory so we have no restrictions as far as plants coming in.

Since this is the only was (through a forum) to post pics (unless there is another way) I will do some postings.

This is a water garden we put in last week.

Welcome to our world, it is very enjoyable, educational and fun.
Have lots of bromelias and aroids for trade, so when you are ready give me a call.
I am in Miami, very close.

Thanks for all of your encouragment.

Yes, we bought some Egyptian Papyrus when we went to the Aibonita flower show that is held the last week of June every year. It is the Caribbean's premier show that people book rooms for the next year while they attend this years.

My husband and I took a verrrrry long trip up and down roads and found Montoso Gardens which is in Maricoa. We met Bryan and his brother David. Mind you they were not expecting us but we did find them. You have to picture driving 10 mph on mountain roads and seeing clouds beneath you.

But it was pretty simple. We would stop at a colmado and say "gringo" and they would point their fingers. We also met a great guy Richard Vlasic that has the most wonderful landscaping we have seen in that area.

Back to Montoso, Bryan and his brother David are good, honest people. Do not hesitate to buy from them if you are interested in tropicals.

My husband and I will also help those that want tropicals. We have wonderful friends that allow as many cuttings as we can take. Down here plants tend to take over areas that we need. Believe it or not Plumerias are a dime a dozen down here.

I am guessing that we have over 40 different tropicals from our friends and probably triple that in nursery purchases.

I just sent Bryan at Montoso gardens a new (to them) heliconia, is a late season winter blooming type a species. I have ordered things from Bryan and got wonderful heliconia rhizomes.
