I need to bring mine in for the winter. Can I cut them back to save on space? And how much can I safely cut them back? Can I root the cuttings?

Pam,
yes you can cut the trees back, no more than a third.too much and it will take a long time to regrow.Root the cuttings in water(takes a while) or in moist peat and perlite mix(50-50%) keep the cuttings in light shade till rooted. You will know when they root because they will have new growth starting.
:-)
