My first Pod Harvest

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Hi, All -

I'm a proud Pod mommy. I harvested my first ever Pod last night - this was also my first ever attempt to pollinate and I was amazed it took! Pod mom: Versi Orange Pollen Donor: Citronella

Good for you Diane. Jeanette

Well I dont know anything about harvesting the seeds or pollinating them....my question is, dont you have to wait until the pod is dried like a regular plant?..this makes the seeds mature right?..this looks like you have taken them from a green pod...any info would be appreciated since next year would be a fun thing to do....Judy

Your seeds look great.

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Those are great photos Diane.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I have yet to see my first pod, I pollinated four different varieties so far nothing, but who knows it may take awhile, and I don't even know what I am looking for when they start.
Yea just another newbie.

Diane, isn't it exciting. When are you going to start them?

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Okay...that does it ...I'm going out to look at mine.. But then...I have no idea what it would be pollinated with. !

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Okay...mine has been there forever but I dont feel that the stem is really yellow...it is more yellowish than the pod itself. couldnt get a good pic in the sun.

LOL Charlotta, I have never seen one that skinny. Who is the mom?

Just squeeze it. Is it getting real soft? Once they start to be ripe they go fast I find. I usually wait till mine gets a gushy spot.

And PS: Diane CONGRATULATIONS!! Great pod.

Cypress Gardens is the mom...the daddy is either whiskers or jean pasco as these were the only three to bloom when I first noticed the pod.

So...is it supposed to feel soft !!!..I would have thought it would harden.

Tremont, IL(Zone 5b)

From the above, I take it that you have to have 2 Brugs blooming at the same time for either one of them to develop seed pods? You can really tell I"m new to this. hehe

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Yes...definately...I've read that only one type of brug is self pollinating..the ones we mostly have require 2 diff cultivars.

Tremont, IL(Zone 5b)

Then I won't look for any seed pods. Only seem to be able to get 1 bloom at a time from Isabella. there are about 6 more buds forming though.

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

I dont know anything about hybridizing or pollinating brugs. but I heard that there are certain brugs that will cross with others...I dont know which ones but I guess its time for me to get a book and look all of this up...Judy

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

I think that may be true Judy but I am sure that you need two varieties.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Brugmansia aurea Group

aurea
insignis
suaveolens
versicolor
x candida (aurea x versicolor)
all of these cross with each other but not with the group below

Brugmansia arborea Group

arborea
sanguinea
vulcanicola
x flava - (arborea x sanguinea)
These can be crossed with each other but not with the group above

Hope this helps

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Im copying this and thank you for the info....next year I may try my hand at being frankenstein...lolol...Judy

And to see which of these "groups" your hybrid belongs to you would go the the brug site and see how it is listed ?
