How tough are they?

My mother had a masdectomy a couple weeks ago, and a dear freind broght her a potted plant (well really there were 7 plants in there) one of which was a hoya - of course the FLORIST potted a hoya, an african violet, a drac spike, dumb cane, a mother in laws tounge and 2 others I haven't Id yet all in the SAME pot with NO DRAINAGE. DUH!!!!

ANYway - the plant police just removed the plants from the home because of abuse (put on a HIGH shelf (7 feet!) and no water --oops I forgot honey...) SOOOOO My mother was issued a ticket and I was given custody of the plants... LOL!!!!

They Hoya looks PITIFUL. The stem tips were dry and brown, the leaves had fallen off some, the remaining leaves are very thin feeling and limp. I trimmed off the dead stuff (hoping I didn't screw it up worse) and soaked the roots (I don't think it had had water for 6 weeks - that's when the surgery was) then potted it up and watered a little more.

Is there hope?? You should see the AV - the poor thing had wanted to bloom when she got it now it just wants to survive!

I will post a pic as soon as the camera batteries charge.

You should dig up the hoya and try re-rooting it. Most don't like to dry out that severely and the roots are most likely dried out or they rotted from lack of drainage holes.

How do I do that (and is it possible when the plant is so dyhyrated anyway?)

I'd remove it from the pot and stick it in a glass of water and put a plastic bag on top. It might be too late but it's all you can do (that I can think of).

That and get a new cutting from someone. ;)
