Coleus, Painted Nettle 'Black Star' (Solenostemon scutellarioides)
Whoa!
That plays off well w/ the chartreuse.
I'll need a ton of deep purples next year.
That one going to be around come Spring?
Thanks Ric I have really liked it this year. It was slow to take off but it sure is showing it's stuff now. I plan to have it next year if it's still available. Do your bring your coleus in for the winter?
Well yes and no.
Yes I bring them in but no I don't get a great # making it thru.
Any tips?
I overwintered Inky Fingers last year and it did fabulously! Had a huge pot to put out this season. Now I have toi figure out how to do some rootings - for some reason I just never seem to be able to root things well - even with root starter! ~:-)
Very pretty mystic!
Sorry no tips on the over wintering. The are bug magnets indoors and I thought brugs where bad. I have a few that make it that are stuck in pot of ears or something. But I really don't even try to bring them in anymore.
Sequee I am glad you had good luck over wintering. Coleus are easy to root. You can even root them in water. I don't like to do this as I tend to forget the change the water daily. :) I will tell you this if you are trying to root them when it's still cold they take forever and sometimes rot. They need warm temps to root. Just cut them off below a leaf node and if its warm just stick in a pot they will root. I walk around the yard and break pieces off and just stick in the nearest planter and forget about them. Good luck with rooting them. If I can help more give me a yell.
Wow - I never tried to root in thm dirt! Cool - thanks for the tip!
I was really shy about Coleus cuttings till I saw Badseed using mystic's 'snap and poke' cutting technique.
I ALWAYS use rooting powder and tents.
I get better luck w/ their method.
Snap'm off and poke'm in the ground.
Forget about them.
Couple of weeks later you say "Where did THAT come from!" lol
Ric
what is the green leaf plant in this picture? I purchased a potted container of geriums and this was in it. The leaf looks like a maple leaf sort of???????
The green leaves are Mina lobata which had several name changes here it is in PF. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1317/
Thanks!
Have you gotten it to bloom?
Ric
