I have a vermiliad in a hanging basket, but am not sure what to do with it. I was told it doesn't need water, that it is an air plant. I am just not sure it seems to be dying. Any help would be great.

Do you mean a bromeliad?
Some bromeliads can survive without any supplemental watering in areas of high humidity. Most commonly cultivated species can't.
