Hi Folks!

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

My name is Brad and I am a plumoholic! LOL I too am a member of MPG that Clare invited to become a member here (and brought over--Thanks, Clare!).

I don't get the chance to post anywhere as often as I would like to between plants and my other job, but I will eventually get to know some of you. I do see a few familiar faces here, which is also great.

Anyway, I live in Florida and I (think--but am not sure--need to count again-LOL) have somewhere in the neighborhood of 125 different plumeria varieties represented in my personal collection, a small percentage of which are seedlings I have grown---most of my collection is Australian, Thai, and from Singapore. I am also an avid collector of the Moragne plumeria hybrids--we should never forget the classics, should we?

Also, I like heliconias, gingers, and adeniums, all of which demand lots of space right along with the plumies. Grass?? Forget it! Who needs a lawn when you can fill it all up with such gorgeous plants!

Anyway, that's all for now.

HI Brad! It's great to see you here! So glad you could pop in and say "hi." My Harry Potter and Noble Concubine Adeniums that I got from you are blooming right now! I'll take a picture in the morning and post them here so you can see. They are just gorgeous! A few of my other adenium seedlings are blooming too, and some of them are quite stunning.

I'm so glad that you are here! I am so looking forward to seeing all the beautiful flowers from your Australian, Thai, and Singapore flowers and your Moragnes this year and next year also. Over here, you can only upload one picture per post, and you must hit "Preview" then "Send" to have the picture show up, but there is no size limitation, I don't think. Let me know if I can be of any help to you here. When you get some time, check out the Tropicals Forum and the Brug Forum. I think you will be impressed with the pictures there.

Welcome to Dave's!

I just found this today. I sincerely hope it isn't a color break. I'm going to isolate this one just in case it has a virus:

Hi, Brad! We're neighbors! About 3 towns over and in the same county. Maybe we trade some day....

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

HI everyone and thanks for the warm welcome.

Clare your unusual adenium is a major keeper. I reminds me a little of Beauty Cloud--a Taiwanese cv. I would guard that one carefully. You could "behead" your less desireable seedlings later and graft this one onto them to increase the number of plants, or, even graft a branch onto another type you like and have a mixed colors plant.

AnaM49---you are pretty close by. In what part of Sanford are you located?I am located in the portion of unincorporatyed Casselberry, very close to Winter Springs. Maybe we'll meet up one day.

Great pics as usual Clare. Hi MIchael and Miss!
Oh I am attaching a picture of a new one: Aussie Gold Rush. These are the first blooms ever at my place. Enjoy!

Hi Brad, I've never grafted an adenium before, but I will try with some other less desireable ones as soon as I have some branches to cut. I would like to have a mixed colors plant some day. I will have to work on that in the near future. I've been successful at rooting cuttings so I may go that way too in order to propagate the more desireable seedlings. I'll save a cutting of the unusual one for you in the future. I love that Aussie Gold Rush! It's a stunner.

Hi Michael! I really don't hate color breaks, but I do hate viruses so I guess that is the same thing. CB's are beautiful and scary at the same time. My honest worry is that it has the capacity to spread and to ruin the flowers of all plumerias in existence. Kukiat told me that the virus is everywhere in Thailand, and that is just a shame to me. Anyway, I'm not sure this is a CB. I think it is just a rare deformity brought on by stress. I'll isolate it and keep an eye on it. This particular plant is from Aloha Palms, and this is the first time that it has bloomed.

Hey, Michael, I checked again, and it's just the red stripe showing through from the other side in a weakness in the petal. I think I'm safe:-)

Hi Brad. Welcome to Dave. It is great to have you here. I also like to grow gingers and their relatives in my garden.

Hi Kukiat,

That color break Bali Whirl is amazing! Beautiful!

I see you have Zinigber spectabile. I have been wanting to find the short growing version of this one as most of them grow too tall. I found one already, but they were too expensive.

I buy plumeria from someone in Bangkok, who also has a small nursery in Chiang Mai, which is where he is now planting his plumeria trees. Thaliand has some lovely cultivars.

Clare has mentioned you to me a couple of times. I hear you also grow some very pretty plumeria.

Here is a picture of my color break dwarf pink singapore that I got from my friend in Thailand.

WOWZERS!!
I love CBS!!

Awe, those are beautiful pictures, Kukiat. I always tell people how beautiful your plumerias are and what a knowledgable gardener you are. Brad is too and has some extraordinary imported plumeria:-)

Your DSP is beautiful too, Brad, even though the FMV freaks me out! LOL!

Here is my Hedychium kewense blooming today. It smells delicious:-)

Touche Clare...
Thjat is my favorite Ginger,
Brad gifted me one and I kiled it.... :(

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Michael, I'll make sure that I send you one next spring. Please remind me if I forget. I'm sure that I will have a clump to dig up then as I am told that these gingers propagate themselves easily.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Clare, that Hedychium is beautiful. I've never smelled one, what is their fragrance like?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Judy. I am smelling them for the first time and am new to growing them. The fragrance is wonderful but hard to describe. It smells delicious and edible with a hint of mint, I think. It smells like the best shampoo you'll ever use:-)

Lecanto, FL(Zone 9b)

Hey Brad

Welcome to the group. I am just starting my addiction. Only have 8 plumies so far, but am growing.....I'm down here in Lecanto. Hope to see more of you as time goes on.

Brad

Lecanto is about 20 minutes from the Gulf. Half way between Inverness and Crystal River and Homosassa Springs. About 70 miles North of Tampa. Intersection of Hiway 44 and 491. I know whatcha mean about learning places. Have been in Florida since mid 60s and still go DUH every once in a while.

JIM

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

Hi Jim,

That is a lovely area, though I was a little surprised on my last vist to that area to see that the Crystal River isn't as clear as it used to be when I was a child. Seems development and the pursuit of a well fertilized carpet of green around people's houses has caused severe nutrient loading in the spring basin and therefore caused the algal blooms. What a shame........those springs are so magnificant. I hope they don't get totally ruined in a few years. I love to snorkel and see the underwater life and manatees.
