Coral Bells

A new plant this year that didn't flower. A couple of weeks ago it threw up a very weak flower shoot which I promptly snipped off to save the strength for next year.

Heuchera - Yummmmmmmmmmmmm
Your PP is far darker than mine. Less sun maybe. Such a useful plant. I have them bordering my front garden. Obsidian is my fave, but I love them all. So many diff. colours. Is yours in a pot? Really like your 'label' - more properly a marker I suppose. Do you ever turn it over to check for slugs?

Inanda

It's doing great Joan. Still looks fresh and lush. Don't worry about it not flowering. I think it's foliage is attractive enough on its own.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

great foliage.

The deer got into my garden this year and massacred a bunch of my new fancy heucheras. They're coming back now but I was a tad miffed. Now I have taller fences so they can find food somewhere else.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

What a lovely heuchera! Ive been collecting them for a few years - last year got Lime Rickey and Marmalade; this year have Peach Flambe and Vivid. Just moved a Chocolate Ruffles which was in too much shade and reverting to green leaves! I lost Amber Waves this winter - seem to lose about 1 a year. Depends on our silly winters here in Calgary I guess. I went to see a garden in June - open garden day for members of theHort Society and the lady had 35 varieties of Heuchera - and she certainly didnt have them all.

Mississauga, ON(Zone 6a)

Inanda - I googled for your Obsidian and like it too - nice and dark. My Palace Purple doesn't get sun till mid-day, so that could account for the darker colour.

echoes - Oh for sure, it's the foliage that counts on these guys.

fancyvan - I looked up your various species and love them all, that Marmalade is going on my list.

mg99 and brugcrazy - thanks.

I think I could become addicted to these. LOL

Heucheras...they're beautiful! Had never thought of growing them here, but if they make it in Winnipeg and Calgary, maybe I should try. Can you mulch them successfully? Sometimes those large leaved plants don't like to be mulched.

Rosemary --

I missed all you guys!

Joan, I must confess it is one of my addictions. There are a few more have to haves for me. Also heucherellas and tiarellas.

Chilko, we have missed you too. Glad to have you back. Will try and find some pictures of my poppies from your seed.

Mississauga, ON(Zone 6a)

Anyone - How tall do the PP Heuchera normally grow?

Joan

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Chilko: I dont mulch anything! It has to grow without a lot of help from me except moving it if it is in the wrong place! But when I was talking with a horticulturist about the fact that I often lose one heuchera most years he commented that it is a shallow rooted plant so they may not last long in Calgary.Depends on what kind of crazy winter we have I guess. So I would try one in your area and yes mulch it .
Joan: my palace purple(s) are in a semi shaded area and I dont think they get enough sun as the leaves are starting to revert to green just like the Chocolate ruffles.

Joan: my palace purple which are about 4 yrs old are 8-10 inches (not counting the flower spikes of course)

Thanks guys for info.

another addict here!! though I try to keep it down to a dull roar. I have Obsidian, Amber Waves, Snowsomething ( a favourite whose name I can NEVER remember) and my favourite purple, Plum Pudding.

I think I also have Velvet Knight kicking around somewhere and a couple of others I got super cheap because the names had been lost. I try to make myself ask if it is really different before succumbing to the latest, but....

The problem with Palace Purple is that it is a seed strain, not cutting grown, and there is a LOT of variation from one seedling to the other. sometimes you can pick one out that is as dark as any other high priced division; other times they green up at the first hint of shadow.

have any of you found obsidian inclined to sunburn (beyond the usual I mean)
M

My Obsidian gets late afternoon sun. Stays pretty dark all season, no sunburn.

Ah geez hortensia, did ya have to go and list some more? lol

I AM becoming addicted. I admit it. Is there a 12-step program anywhere?

This Heucherella Sunspot would look nice amongst the darker ones.

Don't ya think?

Joan, I didn't think I would like that one. It sure didn't look that nice at the nursery. I think I am changing my mind. It would look great with the darker ones. Think it might look good close to Euphorbia 'Cameleon' too.

Langley, BC, BC(Zone 8b)

ooh Joan, that is TOO pretty! reminds me of a rex begonia but much classier colours! great with the dark heuchera Then over it all you could plant philadelphus c. Aurea......

talk about yer revenge! wish you were next door In what is beginning to be known as the great patio period, I had to move some heuchera Snowstorm (didnt remember - looked it up) and it pulled apart into about 6 plants.

Not that I mind, you understand. It flowers red, too over the green & white leaves. Just think what you could do with that!!!

hee hee

isn't it a pretty thing? I like it with papaver Princess Victoria Louise
and centranthus ruber with some blue thing for leavening -- salvia or campanula or veronica. then throw in a little molinia for contrast of form; a white hydrangea behind.....

attached a partial dream pic thanks to photoshop
