This is one of my survivor seedlings an Ecuador Pink cross. H-MaryLA. SP-me This is the seedling that my cat Skeeter ate it's head shortly after germination last year. After a pretty rough start to life it is now growing so beautifully! The leaves are unsual, smaller than my hand and more glossy than most brug leaves. I really like them! I'm dreaming that the flowers will be unusual too! :) This brug almost got thrown away sooooooooooooo many times. I'm glad I kept it.
Interesting leaves on this seedling
It looks very happy.. I wish I could feel it's littel fuzzy leaves.. :) Good job Vicki!
Great looking leaves. I hope it turns out great for you.
How big was the seedling before your cat ate the top? What remained? I have a few seedlings that lost their tops to grasshoppers right after the first true leaves emerged. The remaining stalk is green and healthy looking. I've been reluctant to toss them although, were they any other plant, I know they would be toast. Is there a chance that the stalk will put out new growth?
Betty.. they will come back as long as you keep watering them. After all.. cuttings don't have leaves OR roots and they end up being plants.. yours at least have roots still
Did Skeeter survive this exotic meal?? I hope he wasn't terribly sick or something! (I'm a cat lover!!)
Bonnie
Yes Skeeter did survive but only because I didn't kill her. lol!
I've raised cats and dogs around brugs for a long time. So far never once did any of the 50+ cats I've had thru the years (or the 4 dogs) ever get sick from any part of a brug. Knock on wood (Skeeter's head!) :)
Vee8ch and jazzpunkin,
Thanks for the information. I have hope for my little green stems.
Veronica
I started a few seeds over 2 months ago and they were looking really good until recently. I made a trip outside to sit on the deck and looked at the pot with two seedlings in it and it appears that a caterpillar had a feast. One is looking pretty bad. I hope it recovers like yours did. The other one will be okay, but it sure isn't anything pretty to look at.
Good luck Veronica and Brugie!
You gotta have patience to wait on these headless seedlings. Sometimes they will sit there for months and never show signs of new growth then poof the new growth begins. Sometimes you wait a long time only for the stem to turn yellow and die.
In the past I would not have the patience to wait on a headless seedling when there were so many other healthy seedlings to grow. Unfortunately my seed germination attempts for the last 3 years have been miserable failures for one reason or another. I try to save everything I can. lol!
