Do you make your own dog treats?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Making liver treats this afternoon and wondered if any of you make your own. I notice there is a recipe forum but nothing for dogs! I started making my own some years ago when I got my first dog and wanted really small treats (sheltie owners will understand why only small ones are necessary!) There was nothing much available commercially. I started using recipes from 3Dog Bakery. Then I stopped as I began to find locally made small treats without all kinds of preservatives and chemicals in them. Now I only do it about half the time. I make liver treats and some hard ones that use a basic dough and flavored with cinnamon, garlic or peanut butter. Also make Frosty Paws in the summer.

This is the Liver treat recipe if you've never tried it - dogs love it.

1 pound liver -(can also use kidney/heart)
1 garlic
1 cup rice flour
1 egg.

Puree everything in food processor ( dont peel garlic - throw it all in)
I use whole wheat flour so I add an extra egg.
Spread on a greased cookie sheet
Bake at 350 for 35-46 minutes.
Cut into small squares - a pizza cutter works best.
Sometimes the upper crust swells up - if it does put a damp towel on it and flip it over and cut.

Keep in the freezer until used.
I put small amounts in little sealable bags I get at the craft store and just take out one bag at a time and keep in my cooler when we go to trials
