hummingbird moth

We have had the small rust-colored hummingbird moths for years in our flower gardens in late summer here in Maryland.
This year, a much larger hummingbird moth with stripes and a very long proboscis has appeared. Anyone familiar with this guy and why he only just appeared lately?

That is different than the ones I saw this summer. This one is a clearwing I think. You can see right trough it's wings.

We've recently seen those here in North Georgia, too. Never had seen them in this area.
