Here is a question for all plumeria lovers out there. If I am starting from seed.....do you think it is possible to bonsai a plumeria? If so, how would I do it?
Bonsai
I don't think that plumeria would make good bonsai, and I only base that on not seeing them at all in bonsai offerings. I've seen wisteria and juniper and other trees, but not plumeria. You may have to do some research to see if this has been done or can be done. I do know that, with bonsai, a lot of top pruning and root pruning is done. If this is done with a seedling, it may certainly keep it dwarfed for a long period of time.
I have some very unussual sedlings as I have trained the roots to grow exposed like hands so I can insert a polished stoe at some point. Certain of my seedlings do exhibit the possibility of being bonsiad, that is my intention with several of them. Keeping the pot samll helps too. ;) Ill post some pics in a few days of the roots. Im too tired at the moment ;)
Thank you for your reply, I am looking forward to seeing your pics!
I collect Adeniums which are succulents as are the Plumerias.
Since you are starting from seeds I would suggest leaving a few in a tight pot, basically do not re-plant them as you would other plants.
It's a gamble but since they are seeds, go for it.
I also start adeniums from seed and have a whole bunch of them on the way. They are so pretty! I just wanted to see if anyone had tried to bonsai a plumeria because I think that would be sooooo spectacular. I have a whole slew of seedlings that I have started so I think I will keep one in a small container.
I never heard of plumies being called succulents.
I am told they are trees.
eh?
Michael, since plumerias hold water in their stem, they can be called succulent:-) The first definition fits in this case: http://davesgarden.com/terms/go/889/
Wayul wattaya know..... :P
LOL, Michael! I wouldn't think "succulent" of plumeria on first glance either:-)
I still dont heh... :-P
Tree Tree Tree!!!
Yes, they are trees for sure:-)
OK as promised... heres a picture of one of my Bonsai Plumies.
I let it grow to about 2 foot then cut it back to just about 3 inches.
It sent up small branches and I suspect I can keep it bush style with heavy pruning the first 2 years.
It should do fine. ;)

Sorry it took me s long to post these ;)
I was feeling very weak and poorly when this started.
I am much better now ;)
I hope you enjoy the pics and get some really cool ideas on how to do neat new things to your plumies.
Michael, I'm so sorry to hear that you have been feeling weak and poorly but glad that you are better now. Is it your asthma that is bothering you? Feel better quickly!
Your pics are very neat! What a neat experiment:-)
About loading pictures, I once had problems and found out that, if you have the exact same words in a post as your previous post, the computer thinks its a duplicate and doesn't post it. I posted a bunch of pics once with only the words "And another...," and the pictures wouldn't upload because the computer thought they were duplicate posts.
LOL!! that is exactly wha I did!!
I am feeling well now.
I had a few bad days in the last 3 weeks but overall I am inproving finnaly!!
Thank God!
I was down the shore yesterday and the day before, and fished all day both days.
No asthma at all, a lil tight chestedness inthe foggy morning but no attacks wee-hoo!!
Maybe ill move to the shore heh...
Ah, living by the shore would be great. Do take care of yourself, my dear.
