Antoinette, I am amazed that you got that little piece to root! The smallest that I've been able to root has been around four or five inches. Good job! The stem should elongate so you won't have a short plant for long. Well done! Your cuttings look great.

Boy, tell you what, this was a real challenge.. I did not expect a thing, but look at that little thing now. Thanks for the compliments, I would not have tried it if it were not for you. Here's a pick of I Cairica that you sent me.. I LOVE IT. It's first blooms yesterday.

Ah, that is so nice of you to say:-) I'm just glad the darn thing rooted! You will have to let me know what you think of the fragrance of Samoan Fluff. Some say that it is a bit unusual.

That Ipomoea cairca is sure pretty. I just love the colors of purple, lavender, and blue in my garden. I'm afraid that I had to pull mine out. They don't call it "Mile-A-Minute" vine for nothing! It was spreading like crazy, but it seems to be more mild mannered than its sister Ipomoea indica, the perennial Morning Glory. I'm still trying to get rid of that vine after about a year, and it seems that I never will.

Oh my, Clare... I love the Cairica... will it root from cuttings? I also have lots of Blue Dawn I. indica throughout our property. This is the first year that I've had to cut so many runners. If I do not water it, it will die here in this heat, so that is all I have to do, but I love it. So, it gets watered. My Hubby wants to rip it off the fence in the front, but it is so colorful, cars slow down to look at it. Oh well.

He will win, he is the one that mows..

When you say the fragrance is a bit unusal on Samoan Fluff, what do you mean? lol. good? bad? ohoh..

Antoinette, I. cairca will root easily from cuttings, and it will send out roots anywhere where a vine is resting on moist ground. Be careful with Ipomoea indica in any case. It develops a large thick huge tap root, and it too will root anywhere where the vines rest on moist ground. Any piece of root left in the ground will sprout vines. It has taken over our back area and has rooted in so many places that we will never get it all up. It has now spread to my two neighbors' back yards. Their weeds and ivy have spread to my yard so I don't feel too bad. I never water this vine, but it survives anyway. You are right that it is beautiful. Even if your hubby wins, I bet you will win too. I bet it will survive and come back even if it is removed! Last year, I thought I had gotten rid of mine.

Samoan Fluff, I'm told, has an unusual fragrance. Some like it, and some don't. You'll have to see what you think and let us know. I don't have one so I can't judge personally. I do have one plumeria that is white but smells unusual, but I like it. It is sweet, but it smells like a completely different flower and not like classic plumeria. That is one thing that I really enjoy about plumies: they can look and smell very different.
