Talking with Ed Gilding the other night, we talked about Calcium and Eriostemmas. All of my Eriostemmas (a group ;of hoyas that are more terrestial and mostly are found in leaf litter with a substrate of coral/sandstone - so I am told by folks who have collected them) are potted up, and I didn't want to unpot them to add anything...so he suggested a top dressing of crushed coral that would leach down to the roots with rain/watering. So...I did that today... I have a couple of his crosses that are growing beautifully but have not bloomed yet (Ciliata x Affinis, Coronaria X Lauterbachii and antoher one? - sorry, names not written correctly for those reviewing this post from 'out there')...and he suggested that the calcium might help.
Stay tuned to this station for updates and film at 11 !!!!
BTW...I leave tomorrow for New Zealand for a 2 week 'holiday'...don't know if I will have a lot of access to computer or not...but will try to stay tuned!!. This will be a very non-hoya holiday...no gardening, no cleaning, no weeding, no.... Nice, eh?
Aloha
Calcium and Eriostemmas
Have FUN in NZ Ms. Aloha Hoya!!
Oh, what a vacation ------- ENJOY !! Two weeks of fun, beautiful country, and good friends... see you when you get back !
My X-boss was from New Zealand, and I LOVED his accent. His parents raised sheep, which I guess is the "in thing" to do there, so watch for "SHEEP crossing" signs. I hear it is BEAUTIFUL country. I think their seasons are the opposite from ours, so it should be just coming SPRING there. Hmm.....wonder if there are any hoyas growing wild there as in Austrailia???
Have fun and get some good R&R. :-)

Speaking of Eriostemmas and the fact that they all look alike.... I have a lot of NOIDS (tags falling off etc.) that I put out to grow wild on the new road. This one struggled for a while and is now taking off... Unusual looking to me with that venation!
Thanks, I will have fun in NZ. Will put up a full report with pictures on my website when I get back....
Is that one fuzzy leafed also?
Yes...very. Sent the photo to Ed, maybe he will know...if not, another wait for blooms....
