Plant I love to hate

Hate it most of the time because of the constant chore of pulling volunteers, but there is a certain time window in late summer when you have to forget about how annoying it is and enjoy its beauty

And I was just admiring them today, at a city hall close to my home, they had filled in the outer corner with purple ones, and they almost looked like monkey grass, but with flowers.... I was thinking that was a great idea! Wish that I had some!

How far do they spread? I just bought some Katie pink from Home Depot and plan to plant them in front of the taller pink ruellia.

I can't say how far or how (birds?) I can just tell you I have found seedlings as far as 20 ft away. They're very easy to pull at any size, but it's just annoying sometimes. I also notice more seedlings after a rain.

One thing I noticed that slowed down my plant is that last winter I whacked it good! Had I not done this, I imagine it would have been twice the size. And it may work for some locations that are difficult and you don't want to worry (or care). but in a suburban garden, it can get out of hand quickly and it might be better to keep potted. (even though I don't think that guarantees that you won't find a seedling somewhere.

I would love some. Will you have plants, or seeds? Just let me know what I can send you!

vossner, I know what you mean. But this week I've been admiring them since most other plants are just surviving. The first year I had them I wasn't dilligent about pulling out the volunteers. But since I now know they can get out of hand, I pull anything that's not in it's place, it's not too much of a problem. How far will they go? I had one come up in a pot that was 5 feet above the bed where they were planted. I found one about 80 feet from the bed on the opposite side of my house how it got there I don't know!!!
