Does anyone know about the genetics of this plant? I have grown both pink and white. Last year, as I recall, just pink. This year - started from last year's seeds, I have both pink and white. Is one color or the other dominant? Am I more likely to be able to grow white from the seeds of a white plant and pink from a pink plant when they are growing next to each other or is it a chance thing?
Ann
PS If anyone wants any, I expect to have quite a few seeds later in the season. But since I'm in Canada, a SASE won't work well unless you are also in Canada.
Lavatera seeds
Ann,
I don't know anything about this plant, but it is beautiful! And I would be interested in doing a trade with you when they are ready. Please let me know and I will email you a link to my trade list. Will be on vacation till next Thursday.
Happy gardening!
Colleen
lavateras like are a dominant white. most plants eventiually will go back to the dominant color.
your soil can play a role in color changes too. when growing from produced seeds its a chance you take on which one you get.
i have an old fashined petunia darl lavendar eventually as it gets older it gets more white blooms then lavendar. you will get a varied result with the seeds.
my rose campions are the same way. start of with a fusia and ever other one turns out white.
white is a base color for some plants .
