What to do when the petunias have to go to the garbage......

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I have two containers of blue/yellow petunias at the bottom of my front steps. Well this has not been a very good year for petunias here(at least not mine) and so yesterday I decided they had to go. I usually buy a big pot of mums to stick in but this year - having pruned off a lot of juniper I did something different: base of juniper cuttings and whatever I could find in the garden that looked interesting: heads of red orach seed; allium and foxglove seed heads and garlands of hops. Dont know how long they will last as the pot is still half full of dirt )should probably have replaced with sand!) Still looks nice and no $$ spent! (Which is a good thing since I am just sending off a cheque for 2 peonies which will cost me over $100.00! Yikes!)

Well I am trying to put in things that might overwinter. Other things that will go in as time goes on are dried Heliopsis, and coneflower, globe thistle and sea holly and seed heads from Feather Reed grass - lots of interesting things to find as the garden winds down!

fancyvan, I luv the Green Halo. Where did you order this from, if you don't mind my asking?

I want them both, but I'm not ready for a Peony addiction yet. They sure are Cadillacs.
