Hibiscus Seed Question

Osage City, KS(Zone 5b)

I noticed on some of my Luna Hibiscus the seeds are starting to get ripe - We've had so much rain that some of them seem to have a fuzzy coating on them that could be mold.... Is it mold..... can they be saved.... or should I trash those seeds and wait for later pods....

Thanks

Is it the seeds or the pods that have mold? As a rule, that type of hibiscus has a pretty firm seed. I think I would try sqeezing a couple and see if they are mushy or not. If they are firm, you could always give them a quick rinse with a water/bleach solution, rinse and spread them to try or dust them with a fungicide. If they are soft, I would pitch them. If you get some good ones, will you save me some?

After looking at some other plants and pods I don't think it was mold ..... I laid them out to see if they needed to dry just in case.... and it seemed like it was more fuzz than anything else ......

Of course I'll save you some ...... I picked up lots of new hibiscus this year and hope to harvest tons of seed .....

Cool on both accounts! Out where I am moving (ha! if the bank doesn't kill me first) people grow different types of them all over. We have a very slight ditch all the way across the property. I wonder if anyone would get mad if I filled it with Hibiscus. LOL

Not if they saw how wonderful they bloom...... I'm watching your other thread as well...... potting up all your plants...... I'm glad our Hibiscus doesn't need that TLC ...... makes them all the better...... You said you send your tropicals to other DG'ers .... just for the winter right ? Do you ship them or deliver them yourself......
