I am wanting to try my hand at Bonsai but I don't know what kind of tree to pick to start with. I want to start with a 'wild' tree and cut the tap root. I don't want to invest money into something if my winters are too harsh for Bonsais to survive. I'm going to go and peruse the Bonsai forum afterwards but thought I would throw this out to my 'neighbours' with similar growing conditions. Any advise to offer?

Any of you Zone 4 Canadians do Bonsai??
guess the absence of any reply is your answer Marlymar. I've never tried.
Inanda
Well THANK YOU Inanda, for replying at least! lol I'm surprised that more Canucks haven't tried Bonzai.
I guess I'll go over to the Bonzai forum and see if I can get an answer there.
Thanks again!
Marly
I don't know how many are in zone 4, but I don't think there are very many. That would be one reason that you didn't get any response. I din't remember that topic ever coming up in this forum. Sorry........
well my son wants to try his hand at bonzai this fall,
he is going to use a small spruce tree,,
