Can anyone Id this plant?

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

Hi all
For years a friend and I have tried to figure out what this flower is. No luck but now I'm at Daves so maybe there is a chance.
This cute flower only comes in spring, the flower shows up early then the leaves come then the whole thing disapears till next spring.
Thanks for having a peek.

Whatever it is it's very pretty! I know Todd or Tom will know for sure. I know I don't have it in my garden.

It's Lewisia rediviva....and quite a specimen! I've tried that one several times but can't get it to overwinter...too wet in my climate.

I knew you could do it, Todd! It sure is different from the other Lewisia's. It blooms first without the leaves...cool.

Is this the same thing? A friend sent me this picture a few years ago and I never knew what they were. He called them Rock Roses. They were growing in Kelowna I believe.

I bet they really brighten up an area in the spring. They're lovely.

Thankyou Todd
I will let my friend know. She must have it in a special spot . She doesn't want to move it incase she kills it so it stays in the corner. It just showed up one year! It wasn't planted by her and she has been in the same house for 15 years.
Nightowl2 I will show her the photo you sent and double check the match.

Nightowl, it is indeed the same plant. Lewisia rediviva is native, albeit rare, in the Okanagan. I'm going to have to try one again, perhaps in a pot where I can keep closer tabs on it. It really is a lovely species.

I am going to have to look for Lewisia rediviva. They are really gorgeous. :)

Try Beaver Creek greenhouses...they are practically next door to you and usually offer a number of Lewisia. That's where I will try next spring.

Thanks Todd, I will check them out too. :)

Ok you guys just wait till I tell my girlfriend that folks on Dave's are looking for her plant. She will be thrilled!!.
Just so you know it is by the house so its very protected great drainage and it is on the west side with a few big stones near.
Anyway thanks again Todd and Nightowl2 and Todd may the Rock Rose fairy smile on your future plant.
