While playing here in Tropicals I've met a ton of neat people.
Many of them are now in the Gulf path of Hurricane Katrina.
It's looking to be a VERY dangerous Cat4 by the time it makes landfall again.
As of now I think New Orleans is ground zero when it hits early Monday afternoon.
They of course know all this but this story is not getting a lot of air play on the news here in OH.
So I thought I'd mention it here in Tropicals.
Here's the Weather Forum thread.

This one doesn't look to be playing around.
Be safe friends!
Ric
Good Luck to you all!
I wish it would just fizzle out. They are still not sure exactly yet where it will go. It may get me too or at least put us to close and on the east side of it so we are evacuating tomorrow night possibly
Just upgraded to at Cat 4... all of you in the path or close to it need to board up and get out of there. Stay safe. Plants are replaceable.. friends aren't

almost cat 5 now. bye bye home and plants
Donna and who else may be in the path of Katrina, may you all be safe.
We are 90 miles from NO but east of the eye and will be in the direct path as in moves inland. Keep fingers crossed that my greenhouses make it and the house doesn't get beat up to bad.
there are a bunch of us here along the immediate coast that are going to be affected. MsJen, Janet OS(2 blocks from the beach a few streets over from me), Stretchworth, Roz, RubaMS, Ron Lessner and family, Kay in Poplarville, Barb in Hattisburg etc.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Please do all that you can to be safe and get word to us as soon as you can, when it is over so that we know you are alright.
Just holding our breath and trying to prepare as best as we can. I feel so bad for the folks in New Orleans- they will be totally homeless, city-less, but hopefully, alive. This is going to be a bad one, comparable to Camille and Andrew.
I will be thinking of y'all. Hope everyone stays safe.
donna Its so big were suppose to get 120 MPH winds from it...
which isn't as bad as what yall will get
but it still might change....

I couldn't sleep , got up at 5 and heard it is now a category 5. My sister is right at the bulls eye in Metairie, the first suburb of New Orleans. I will be praying for all of you.
We are all keeping you in our thoughts and prayers until this storm passes...... The earliers post says all that needs to be said.... Plants can be replaced - friends can't ...... Find shelter and be safe everyone ......
if it goes more toward NO we might be o.k. if not with 25' water above sea level I will have water to my ceilings. My floors are at 10' above sea level as required by my flood insurance. We are going to be in the north east quadrent which is also the worst place to be. I have been sick with worry all morning but am finally coming to terms with it all. I am just regretting having this back surgery right now because there will be so much to do afterwards. Friends we are going to staying with said we can live there if necessary. Wonder if Aaron is going to like having his forman living with him lol
I am fixing to go off line. Water is coming up in the parking lot at the store by the bayou just down from my house so we need to be out of here in the next couple of hours at the latest since that same bayou ends across the street from my house. Good luck everyone
You are all in my prayers. Please try to keep us updated as your can.
Well, we are not leaving this time. We are higher up than DonnaB about 22 feet above the gulf. So, hopefully, we should be ok where we are, have never had water anywhere near here even during Camille, so I think we will be ok. This time I have to stay.
A lot of my neighbors are also.
Gotta go. Work to do.
Janet
