Versi Peach - doin' great now that the mites are in remission. This has to be flush number 9 or 10 - seems almost always in flower..

Golden Lady - and oh what a lady she is. Also seems to be be in constant bloom. Now if she would just hold a pod...I think it has been the heat and drought - but she has dropped every pod I have pollinated on her.

Great pictures, Diane. You must spend every available minute working in your yard. It's all so pretty.

nice showing!

This is Insignis Pink..never quits...like a duracell battery. I have seen her with this many flowers and no leaves cause they yellowed and fell off with leaves. last attach was only a few weeks ago and look at her now..

One more seedling about to bloom - this is from a packet of Susie's seeds labeled "mixed doubles". Have no clue what treasure might be happening here..

Very beautiful Diane!

Good morning Diane....I have to admit that I'm no expert when it comes to picking pods. If they look like they are starting to get mushy and fall apart, I pick them. It seems like my versicolor pods took a lot longer than the others. It won't hurt to wait. Off hand, I would say it isn't ready. Two months is not very long...but I really don't know.

Diane, I'm terribly envious of your VO (Versie Orange, not vodka/orange juice, as it's known here, lol), what a beautiful brug, a real show off!! Your lovely plants are wonderful and perfect accessories for John's beautifully cut stones and wood work. You two make a great pair!!!

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Aw..shucks, Sherry - thanks (blushing). Poor John,.. he spent all day and I mean ALL day digging a 20 foot trench to lay the conduit to carry the electricity to the new garden site. He dug this trench (1 ft deep) by hand with a pick and electric jackhammer with chisel attachment. Had to go under 2 stone walls, a stone sidewalk and through the side of 2ft thick cellar wall. I felt so bad for him working so hard. He's collapsed on the bed now..shot. Think I will bring him the REAL VO (vodka and orange juice) LOL

OMG!!! I'm amazed you didn't have to call an ambulance. I've only used a jackhammer once and a day later, I thought I had polio!! I cannot imagine a project any more difficult than John's, it's amazing and wonderful that you share his passion!!!!

Diane I love the way you have them sitting out in rows in your yard. If I was to do that I could hear Roger my DH screaming about having to mow around them. He screams now at what I have planted.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

BTW what did you finally use to rid your brugs of mites.

Look at the leaves nothing is eating on them at all, can't find a hole anywhere, or a chewed area. They are really a beautiful site.
Don't you have grasshoppers or cats there?

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Linda - well, it's a little deceiving...the mites are just barely under control..not truly gone yet :-) I have had to hit them with mulitple treatments with mulitple weapons. About 4-5 weeks ago most of them looked horrible. Yellow, and covered with mites. A few like my Citronella, Monster white, Vixen, Dr. Seuss and Gofito were essentially completely defoliated. I got Avid and sprayed them with that (I as so hopeful that was all I needed) nope. 3 days later they were back... I sprayed them with Ortho Systemic (listed mites on the label)..okay then for 4-5 days - then they were back. Bought some granular stuff on ebay called
Hi-Yield Di-Syston Systemic Insecticide Granules and poured that on the soil and watered in. hmm..things looked much better for several days. Just for good measure I sprayed them with Volx (sp?) horticultural oil with miticide last week as they were looking much, much better. Don't ya know..I saw some mites again yesterday on Golfito and Vixen again!! Yesterday in the mail, I got my NEEM. So today..they get that. I have never, in my life, seen such horrible persistent insects! But I'm persistent too and determined not to give in. I think I've got them on the run now..if I stay on top of it. CATS? yep..but they haven't bothered too many of the brugs this year - have only lost 1 or 2 flowers to the occasional visitor. Haven't seen any grasshoppers..maybe it's too hot.

Your plants are just stunning - my vers ornge has bloomed frequently, but oh! what a demanding Brug - I think vers must stand for "veritable bug attraction".
Love to see your incredible landscaping and layout.
