Hi, beautiful people!
I was wondering if any of you have ever heard of these two Hoyas:
H. sp. bangkok 4
H. gobosa tw. 1976
I have tried to google for information on them, but to no avail, so now I am suspicious that they might be mislabeled.
They were given to me a couple of months ago, so I have no idea of their origin - but I never say no to a hoya no matter what its pedigree...
Thanks lots!!
Ann
Has anybody ever heard of these Hoyas?
I saw one being sold a month or so ago called "hoya from Bangkok", but that is all I know about it.
Marcy
Photos?
H. gobosa MIGHT be H. globulosa - long stiff leaves with darker venation?
Carol
Awanda, your Bangkok Red & my Bangkok 4 certainly do seem similar. If they are the same plant what is the correct name for them? The quest for discovery.......
Hey ladies, if you want an uneducated guess, I think the bankok red looks a lot like a potsii. I definitely could be wrong!
Heather
Thanks Awanda, Heather, and Carol.
Well, I certainly happy I didn't pay for them (not that I am complaining since I didn't have a pottsii).
However, that leads me to ask about another plant - the one I did buy some time ago labeled H. australis. Below is a close-up of that leaf. I have looked around the internet and there are australis leaves that are similar, but not exact. So, now I am confused...
OK, one more question.
I have had, for quite sometime, a hoya labeled "bilobata."
I was looking back at some of this groups older threads and saw a discussion about H. bilobata where Carol pointed out that particular plant was not really in circulation.
So, from my out of focus pictures can you all help me decide if this is a H. bilobata, and H. tsangii, or something else altogether.
Thank you all!!
Ann your bilobata looks like tsangii to me, and I'm not sure what your Australis is, I've never seen leaves like that on any Australis I"ve had. I do like the look of the leaf though:-). Do they all have the quilted look?
Blessings,
Awanda
MsKitty, is that plant an Exotic Angel plant? I have the exact same one, I'm fairly certain it is a tsangii, DS-70, whatever you call it. I got one from Carol, before knowing the two were the same, and it has been flowering all summer. I don't detect much of a smell. But I don't have the greatest whiffer.
Heather
Carol...those leaves didn't turn RED, they turned PURPLE. Is that the correct color on that one? I have a lot of hoyas that turn a maroon redish in bright light, but never heard of one that turned purple. They also look huge in that shot. What size are they? Which clone is that? I think I want it already. Ha
Marcy
Awanda, yes they all do have that quilted look. On the older leaves the lines are more pronounced, but they are there on all of them.
So, the plot thickens...this might not be an australis after all ... these plants I have mentioned have come from the same source which is a local tropical plant store (supposed specialists). The gifts have been starts from the employees who work there (and are delightful human beings), but I am beginning to feel like they grab the hoya handbook, find a leaf that looks sort of similar and then put that on the name tag.
Oy, the more I learn, the more I don't know...
Heather,
I don't know if it is an Exotic Angel. I got it from the Indoor Garden in Eugene, Oregon with their tag on it.
Hmmmm. Ann, the little leafed one does look like H. sp. DS-70 (aka H. burtoniae, H. tsangii, etc.). The big leafed one is a mystery: looks succulent so I wonder if it would be one of the H. australis succulents like rupicola or orimacola? I don't have those, so I don't know. Give me some time and i will look them up in the Publisher's paper on H. australis.
Marcy...the photo is a bit bluer than the actual leaf...darker. They are quite dark tho. I would say the leaves are about 5" long more or less. I haven't seen it bloom, but whatever color the flower is will look smashing against that red.
Carol
Thanks so much everybody!!
Ann
