Finally caught this one!

I must have tried for ten minutes to keep this guy in focus. He just wouldn't sit still, kept circling - caught him upside down, sideways - and finally got this one.

Ditto!!

Thanks everyone - even though it's so similar to some others posted, it was worth the effort!

Beautiful shot. Well worth the wait. But I have to ask, which butterfly bush is that? Pink delight? I'm making my wish list for ones I don't have, and I don't have any pink yet. Thanks, Becky

Becky, yes it is Pink Delight - we also have White Ball and Black Knight blooming right now but the butterflies seem to prefer PD.

WOW!!! What a great photo! I hope you post more.

I know that feeling too - chasing and stalking swallowtails and getting frustrated because they won't stay still for a photo!!!

I really envy the gardeners who have lots of swallowtails in their yards. So far I've only see two at one time...and a stray pipevine swallowtail.

I really need to get better butterfly bushes. I have two light purple, two white and a wild lindeyanna that are blooming...but nary a butterfly on them?!

Will say the few swallowtails I do have around here are on the duranta purple sky flower bushes all day long. Also have gobs of gulf frits, skippers, sulphurs, monarchs and some I haven't been able to identify.

This is a photo of one of the two swallowtails checking out the Spring Beauty Dianthus this morning. I am not sure which swallowtail it is. DonnaS
