Hey Clare!
We're both going to have enough time to chat again one day!
'Been missing our chats!

Another Kimo Pic
I nearly forgot! How's the fragrance?
Clare I don't know what to liken the fragrance to except roses, but it's not exactly like that either. It's wonderful, though.
Isn't Beni- Oiran gorgeous? Most of the gingers have great fragrance, which this one does not. Is that the only one that has bloomed for you yet? You're gonna love them all.
Kay
Hi Kay! Yes, this is the first one to bloom, but I have several flower stalks developing on some of the other ones. I can't wait to smell the others! I'm sure you are right that I am going to love them all. Not to change the subject away from your beautiful Kimo, but do you think it would be all right if I plant a row of gingers? Is there any trouble with these types becoming invasive? Here is a picture below of one of the Hilo Beauy plumies that you sent me. It is growing branches from every leaf node! It's so cool!
Wow, Clare! I'd say you are doing something right! That Hilo Beauty is looking great!
Gingers do spread quite a bit.....some more rapidly than others. I would not put them very close together, and don't expect them to stay in a straight row. They will eventually probably grow together....which would be very pretty, if not confusing. Since yours are just starting to bloom, I'm wondering if they will act the same in CA as they do in MS. They've been blooming here for well over a month. I wonder if they will go dormant in CA as they do here. Did they grow over the winter for you or die back?
That is just breathtaking!! I can't wait till mine blooms.
Thanks, Kay! They grew like mad over the winter, and I had to divide them this past spring. I went from six containers to about twelve, which is why I want to put them in the ground. They are already rootbound in their containers. It doesn't freeze here so I doubt they will go dormant. The cannas don't either.
