OK...Hawaiian is really hard to learn. Limited alphabet, wierd grammer...living here you wind up using some Hawaiian words in everyday life: Aloha, mahalo (thank you), ono (good), pau (finished, done, over) Li'ili'i (little by little, slowly),akamai (smart - clever). Then there is pidgin which is a mishmash...very funny, to us: "Find someone and ask them" = u fine one kini brah n'askem. The schools are so bad here that to get the kids to pass, some teachers teach in pidgin and the country can't find enough locals for police officers because of the lack of reading, writing and math skills. Then sometimes it is combined: a sign in a store Not to use a certain aisle will end with "Mahalo for your kukui" (Thank you for your cooperation). It's fun!
