I got this brug at a swap last fall. Was told it was a double white. The leaves are really velvety, unlike my Maya and my Frosty Pink (?). I was guessing it was a dbl white suavolens. Any help with ID would be appreciated. I am thrilled about the bloom. The FP has bloomed great. Both are so eaten up, though.
About time!
The leaves look right for a double white. Which one I don't know. I'm sure you will like her.
Nice looking plant! Not a suaveolens. Most likely it is x candida or a x candida cross of some kind.
We used to call them stuffed and with dropped skirt, Vossner. LOL. Not very scientific. I hope you got a pretty one. My stuffed ones had the real velvet leaves.
Looks like DW x candida. Looks in great shape also. Here is a picture for comparison. I love that velvet feeling of the leaves. Mine did so well and not one spider mite. I bragged about it last month and within a week they were infested. I stripped them and abused them with neem!! LOL
They are doing nicely now and hope for some blooms before long.
In my yard they were mite magnets, Kin. I tossed them because of that, all but one I forgot that is growing in the side yard. I was looking at it yesterday. It is huge now and full of mites. LOL. A big Japanese maple is hiding it. It had a very pretty flower dangling from it.
They can get quite big. LOL
Kell! You say you've got a big maple "hiding" that doublewhite? Geez, that Japanese maple must be near record proportions then. Or is that an old pic or from somewhere else? wow!
yeah Kell, where's the maple? both of y'all's look like mine. So now my baby has a name. thanks.
PS; I like the smell of neem
ph my gosh---that's a gorgeous, huge Brug !! I can only wish :))
Margo
here is a pix of my DW x candida. Unless my eyes are deceiving me, this one doesn't look like the other double brugs I have seen in this forum. Would you please tell me if you still think it is a DW? thanks.
Also, would you agree w/ Kell that this one is a mite magnet? I have too many tropicals in that area and don't want to get into a big battle. I'd just assume pull it out and put another one. Personally, I haven't seen any mites on mine.
Lost track of this thread. That huge double white is a few miles from me. It is HUGE. I need to go for a visit. I wonder if it is covered in blooms right now. No, my DW is more of a sucker one, not a bush, not a standard. Has about 6 suckers coming up from base and they are about 10 feet tall. I can't get a good look at it for it is surrounded by fence on 2 sides and by a big maple on one side. The only free side has a jacaranda tree a few feet from it. So I only get glimpses. However, the leaves I see still have mites. LOL
Gee Vossner, that sure is pretty. Is the second skirt tucked in high in that bloom?? I would say, if it doesn't have mites wait and see. If it gets them, you can get rid of it fast. I think it may be the furry leaves that the mites love. But I have no clue. I know others have said their DWs are mite magnets. I do not think Donna had that trouble though with her Hawaiian double white. So you may be safe.
Boy, I do miss Blaine and his fun posts! He has such a personality!
Sure is a pretty one!!
My Candida Double White wasn't a mite magnet. The green worms thought she was yummy though. This is the first year that I've had mites, and they only attacked my Equador Pink and Rosamond. EP has fully recovered (has 20 small buds on it) and Rosamond is thinking about it. Hopefully we won't get any cold weather before EP gets a chance to bloom. The greenhouse won't be finished before frost. My husband has changed the design 5-6 times and we got delayed 6 weeks waiting for the contractor to come with the Bob Cat to grade the yard. Keeping my fingers crossed.
