new to bananas

petersburg, KY(Zone 6b)

hello everyone,
I had my first banana given to me by a friend about a month ago and now all of sudden it has 3 pups, I'm wondering if I should try to repot before winter. Also if anyone knows what kind it is that would be great too. Please help, don't want to lose these guys. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks shelly
ps: the little dead looking one I got a smith and hawken, and it has 2 pups too. I don't know what kind it is either.

i'm no expert on bananas by any means and i cant tell you what kind you have, altho the small one may be a cavendish. i dont think you have to repot at all. if anything, the small one might be in too big of a pot. when they are little, it seems they do better more contained (my opinion). there are some great threads here in tropicals about how to overwinter bananas and if you cant find any, someone will come along and let you know. debi

I always take a pup and pot it up and bring in for the winter just in case. However I haven't lost one in several years now. Sorry I can't id what you have.

bananas are hard to identify unless it blooms or there is funny colors in the leaves but either way its beautifull so in time you will be able to identfy it.

just repot the pups and bring them in for the winter or build a small greenhouse i have a link to a site to build a small dome that is sturdy and will handle the snow as the pitch should make them safe and best of all there cheep to build and heat so you can enjoy all winter but make sure you put plastic on the outside and inside oh you 2x4s for add insulation.
