I took this picture this morning of my blush hibiscus.
It went through a blooming period when I first got it and it has now doubled in size, atleast, and is now full of blooms!

is this a moschuetos too? Luna Blush? i was just given one as a gift yesterday and i had a bloom this morning just like yours. so lovely. debi
It is a Luna.....suppose to be very hardy My red one is HUGE!!! Blooms should be open on it tomorrow! I wonder how long it goes through the blooming like crazy then growing then blooming some more???
Does anyone know? I am very new to gardening. These are my favorites though I think! I wish the flowers stayed for longer then a day though.
i dont know much about them, except what ive just read since getting two. i have been cutting the spent blooms off of the red one (its bigger and loaded everyday) and the blush is more well-behaved looking. i know that come fall, i will cut it back and since mine are still in pots (until next spring) i will mulch alittle. they are in a protected spot in the courtyard. they should start putting on new growth in early spring. from what ive read they bloom late spring thru fall. they are hardy in your zone also. debi
I dont cut mine usually I just pull the bloom of the next day when it is droopy it pulls right off very easy. Maybe I should cut it off?
What will the plant do if it is left through the summer will it die back? I dont know anything about cutting plants back for the winter or which ones should be cut back, like I said I am very new to all of this. It is a miraccle all my stuff is alive and doing great so far :)
You can cut it back before winter sets in. I have about 15-20 and they all come back. I am a little warmer than you normally. I do mulch pretty heavy. They are slow to emerge in the spring however. I just leave my spent blooms and let them form seeds this late in the year. They grow easily from seeds.
gardening_in_GA..... I'm a zone 5 and my hardy hibiscus come back every year...... My Luna's have survived the Kansas winters with no ill effects so I see no reason why yours would have problems...... I wait and cut mine back in the spring so that I can remember where they are - hibiscus are slow to show each year so you have to be patient - seems like it's mid June around here before we see any sign of life...... but once they get started they go crazy. The blooms do last 1 day but most plants have so many blooms you don't really think about them only lasting a day.....
This one was started from seed this year........
