Dinner is served, so where are the butterflies?

This time last year we had so many monarch caterpillars we were running out of leaves, but this year, no cats.

Susie I haven't had the first Monarch yet this year either. Hang on they should be migrating down anytime now

Thanks Donna, I planted extra asclepias so they wouldn't starve. Here is an orange one.

I have one Monarch - tons of milkweed, no cats. Yet. I bought a lot of milkweed this year, because last year I had a lot of cats. I keep hoping to see something soon.

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm waiting too! I had hoped they would be here earlier but they are taking their time. I have had days occassionally when there are 2 of them, and they stay for a few days, but I think they were both males. Today I did have 2 Queens tho, so maybe someone will use my milkweed before the aphids get it all!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Yeah, the aphids are pretty aggressive this year....

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Y'all, I have the opposite problem, they have laid so many eggs and eaten all of my milkweeds, so I am begging for plants and leaves!!! Mine are hatching and eating every plant down to the ground, and I mean down to the ground. The aphids don't have a pray with mine!!! Just thought I would encourage you, that they will be there!!! Also the gulf frits are plentiful too in my garden on my passifloras, cool too.

That's another one that's missing this year, the gulf frits, haven't seen more than half a dozen all summer.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Susie I have had a few Gulf Frits for a couple of months now. I usually have tons of them by October. Butterflies are just now starting to show up here. Has been a strange year

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, it's been strange for me too. I usually have tons of GF's but not too many this year. My passionvine is growing big because the ants were eating the eggs, so I brought in the last 5 I saw. I'll just raise them inside for a while, or maybe the whole time.

Yesterday and today I've had 2 Queen's so maybe they will lay eggs! I've had GST's and a Pipevine ST yesterday and my regular little skippers. I've not had any big Sulphurs yet tho!! Last week I finally saw one tiny little bright yellow butterfly, but not a big Sulphur.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I had lots and lots of pipevine swallowtails.
I have those yellow jacket paper type wasps that build under vines and leaves. Wonder if they are eating my cats? I need to spray them,

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

well had my first Monarch come in today, pretty well beaten up. Hope it lays some eggs
