This is another butterfly from the Key West Conservatory I couldn't get help with on the id. A very unusual green coloration. This is one of two I photographed there that were green. I will post the second one next.

Hi Art, this is an Emerald Swallowtail (Papilio palinurus). They are lovely, aren't they?
pajarito, thanks for your ID. A question. I looked for hours and couldn't find it on the web. How did you find it? I would love to know since I have a bunch I can't id.

Art, glad I could help. I didn't use the internet; I just knew what it was. When I saw your "2nd Green Butterfly" I right away said "that's a Tailed Jay." But Kennedah identified it as something else. When I checked the link that was included I felt better that it said "also known as the Tailed Jay."
I have several (many) butterfly books and guides and I seem to always have my nose in one of them. I spotted two new butterflies in my yard this week that I've never seen before, a Red Spotted Purple and a White Admiral.
I also frequent Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in Deerfield, MA. (www.magicwings.com) It's about a 2 hour drive for me, but worth the trip. Everytime I go I see new butterflies I've never seen before. It's nowhere near as big as Butterfly World, but the best New England has to offer.
I did purchase the identification card they sell and the booklet that Butterfly World sells. I have noticed that some of the names Magic Wings uses are different from what Butterfly World calls them, ie a Rice Paper (Idea leuconoe) at Magic Wings is called a Wood Nymph at Butterfly world.
I'd love to see what other photos you have and if I recognize any I'll be sure to give you the name.
Also thanks for the tips of butterfly places in FL. Cypress Gardens seems like the closest and my DH will enjoy the rollercoasters and ski show while I enjoy the gardens and butterflies. Thanks so much for the tip.

As I go through my new pictures I will post butterflies I missed on my first trip to that thread, rather than start all over again.
If you see something you recognize, just note it in a post. All the pictures are noted as picture # so it's easy to attach a name to a picture.
Here is a picture of a Ruddy Daggerwing from my yard. It's a composite picture. The inset is a picture of it mostly closed. It's to the left of the red flower. If I caught it fully closed it would resemble a dead leaf. It's one of several varieties we have here that look like dead leaves when they close their wings.
Last week our local garden club (So Fla Galloping Gardeners) made a trip to Butterfly World. I purchased a book but one of the ladies carried it for me and I forgot to get it back at the end of the trip... I will have it next week when we GT to visit a local watergarden establishment and a local nursery. We GT every couple of weeks. We met here on Dave's back in July. Like you, I see new butterflies in my yard every week. However getting a picture, or even a clear mental image is difficult for me, at best. I am glad you can recognize the new one's you see. I find it amazing how many different species there are here, if you just get out and look for them. Of course, being retired I have the time that many others don't. On the other hand I am not as sharp as I used to be, especially in the vision area.
KKB, who posted above is in Texas. She has sent up pictures of dragon flies and damsel flies. I have them here too, in a wide variety of colors. I have a posing area I set up for them by my pool. They land on the posing area, which is a long narrow stick attached to a small statue which is sitting on the edge of my pool, where they stop by all day and dip in for a quick drink. Do I have a single picture of them, no. I mean, they dip in for drinks all day, land on the posing stick and all, and I still can't get a picture. Oh well, that's my story, sad but true.
