Dog days of Summer

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

bad pics ... sorry.

x candida pink has been faithful to flower for me year round no matter the conditions. This is the heaviest flush she has had so far in her short 1 month lifetime. Even though she is miserably hot and tired she keeps on producing. My neighbor has just as much of this tree hanging over his fence as I have. There's 200+ flowers. I hope he is enjoying the beauty of brug flowers. Sure does smell nice out there.

edited to say she is 19 months not 1 month .. lol!

I wish I had you for a neighbor! They're lovely.

This is her almost a year ago after hurricane Frances. Hurricane Jeanne totally flattened her with the fence. Still she survived.

She definitely is a survivor and a pretty one at that. She has an enormous amount of blooms for the extreme heat of this summer. I have yet to have a flush like that this summer........hurry up fall.....lol

I like what you have done to make the tree trunk. Very pretty.

What a beauty, love the braided trunk. I have one that I'm trying to braid but it growing very slowly.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thats a boat load of blooms. Nice one Vickie.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Is that a braided trunk? I thought maybe it was tied up around a central stake or something to keep from blowing over!

Beautiful!!!

Thank you everybody! Because she is actually three trees is why she is so heavy with flowers. I only recently took the giant dowel rod out that supported her. She can finally stand on her own. The limbs get heavy and flop in your face sometimes so now I am weaving those branches in with other branches. By the time this tree is 5 years old it should be a conversation piece. A real twisted puzzle! ... (pssst .... did you see that womans ugly tree? What a tangled mangled mess!) lol!

Knoxville, TN

That is a real beauty V!!! I love the braided trunk. It gives her character!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

V - She looks awesome!! Who's gonna call her ugly??? Hmph. She's a trendsetter. They'll be jealous, that's all!! lol
I had to do the same thing with my double rose of sharon against my fence.....my doggie was chewing and disfiguring lower limbs on three separate trunks. Voila, I braided it just the same, and tied them to the fencing with bungie (a very classy touch, might I mention.) I love the look , myself, but of course, I'm partial. hehehehe

Your one plant has more blooms than I've seen on all my plants this summer. Beautiful Vicki!

Wow Vicki, The house next door to me is for sale. Would you buy it please and bring all your brugs with you. Then I could enjoy all the beauty and not have to do the work. Sounds like a good deal to me. LOL! Maybe not so good for you though. LOL

Wow! That's enough to make me think about moving to FL! The braided trunk is just the right touch for such a huge plant.

Susan

I also like that braided trunk. Great idea and very well done. Looks so beautiful with all those blooms. Ahh the fragrance!

Thank you for the encouragement!
This is a project I've dreamed of since 98. My very first braided tree was versicolor orange. I grew it in a 20-25 gallon container. It grew slowly and did not flower enough to suit me. I had it for 3 years. Then I lost interest in brugs and let them all starve, freeze and die from thirst.

For now I love brugs again ... but check back with me next week. lol!
