Three Adora X Rosamond Seedlings

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Started out with 6, one didn't come back from basement dormancy. They have different scents! This one is planted on the corner of my property by a Stop sign and in my small town, it has been stopping ladies and men alike. One lady approached saying "is that brugmansia? I have been reading about them..." and I was glad to snap off a branch for her. She hurried away like I'd given her a treasure! Remember that first brug feeling?

This one has a kind of yellow stripe on the outside of the bloom. Very nice scent.

#3. Looking at pictures of Adora I'd have to say this one takes after her. The first bloom on the plant had 6 points.

Beautiful!!!!

I guess the title of the thread is a bit misleading - these are 2 years old now. I purchased the seeds online for about $3 - what a deal! (ignorning the large sums I spend annually on stuff to feed, treat bugs, lighting, etc). There are 2 left that haven't bloomed this year, but did last year and were similar to these.

Eileen
Your first picture is AWSOME!!!!

I printed it out just in case someone wants to see what a Brug looks like AND--I set it as my background on my desk top--for now......
I have 2 Rosamonds this Summer. The blooms are HUGE!!!! So are the plants--about 8' tall!!!.
How do you all have your Brugs so short and in full bloom? Does it have to do with how it started (cuttings vs seed?) or from where the cutting was taken? Or how small the cutting was?

Congrats! Gita

Good job Eileen. I also have several growing right at the edge of the road and when they bloom people stop and ask what it is. Isabella is full of blooms today, and hanging out in the street.

Gita, These 3 brugs were started almost 2 years ago from seed, kept in pots (largest being 2 gallon size) and then kept dormant in the 50 degree basement for the winter. Now, all are planted directly in the ground and could have gotten as tall as they wanted. They seem to prefer being shrubby which makes spraying them and smelling them so much easier.

LindaSC, these have given me so much enjoyment that I figure it's time to share. Now the whole town can see & sniff if they wish! Seems like there are a handful of folks growing plain white datura here in town, usually out by the street around a streetlight. Perhaps this will give them ideas...

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

I like the #2 with the frilly edges. Very nice pictures and also very nice of you to share you plants with the folks in your town.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

This is mine from that cross. It totally looks different.

That Adora sure likes to strut her stuff. That same big bouncy spread is showing up in most of the seeds I grew crossed with her.

The one at the stop sign (snickering here) it's got 'neener neener nee-ner' on it like a flashing neon sign. It must be a blast just nonchalantly picking around in the grass kind of like you're doing something and oblivious to the world (with shades on of course) and watch the expressions of drivebys/walkbys. Come on now, you can admit to it. :)

Very nice! The sunset is lovely that you captured behind Brug #1. Beautiful dark pink color on Brug #2 and soft pink on Brug #3. Congratulations on growing them from seed and getting them to the flowering stage!! That's the best reward of all!!

Your pics are totally gorgeous !!!! You said that they are now directly in the ground.... you don't have problems in the winter then I take it ???

I'm in Michigan and I feared that I wouldn't be able to have something that looked so tropical yet delicate..... the blooms are just so awesome!!!

Just outstanding. Congratulations on all of your work and love.

Wow, that first picture is a beaut! Can't wait for some full flushes like that. I love pink!

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

You're all too kind! They're pretty, but not *special* enough to keep over again. That's why they are in the ground - a last 'hurrah' before winter takes them. At this time I have 12 plants directly in the ground and about the same # in pots that could come in for the winter. Of course if I decide to keep any of the ones in the ground, there are always cuttings. (Except that dratted Vixen X one that refuses to bloom, I will have to dig her up and haul her in....)

Blaine, You hit it on the head, I do like to watch people's faces when they see the one on the corner. Especially that one lady with the naked brug lust gleaming from her eyes. I recognized it immediately! :) I am lucky that that particular brug decided to bloom it's head off, how embarassing if it had just looked pathetic all year.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh Eileen, can you share cuttings of the first one in photo up there? It's such a beauty I just had to ask?

Laurrie

ok Eileen..that does it...gotta have it....I grow datura but have never tried brugs.....do they grow from seed , or will I need a cutting to start?..I live in the country in zone 7, hell hot, sandy, and drought prone....think that will work for the brugs?.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Jackie, You might want to try cuttings first, as seeds/seedlings take anywhere from 8 months to 3 years to bloom for the first time. I'm all for instant gratification and people are already posting offers of cuttings of brugs that are sure things. My first one was Isabella and she was easy to root, grew well, and bloomed ALOT!
