I wanted to share a few pics and I love the idea of growing the original species plants. I wanted to compare the type of growth habits, flowers bloom sizes, etc of the speices with the AV's we have today..it's also a nice history lesson on one of my favorite plants.
The pic is of a one year old plantlet I grew out and is now blooming( not showing in the pic)...it is also suckering like crazy! I really like it's shiney leaves and the nice circular pattern it grows in with very lil effort. This one has been grown on a wick watering system.
What do you think about it???

African Violet S.ionantha...
She is very pretty. Now you go ahead an leave that S.ionantha, and the Angel trailer on your deck for me . I will right over to pick them up...
Oh and could you please leave a light on for me. I can't see well in the dark, and
I promise not to wake the Chi herd. LOL
Wow, those shiny leaves really are impressive-- even without the blooms! And the shape is really nice.
LOL Patti, Please don't wake the Chi Herd!!!
They are all in for the night an snuggled down. They had to have the Great Chi Race around the furniture first...lol
Oh the light's on but the attack cat is prowling:)
I'm sure we can snip one of those suckers off each next time you are here...
Danak,
I love the perfect heart shape of the shiney leafs too.
The blooms are smallish and a nice shade of purple.
I would grow it just for the beautiful shape & leaf pattern. It will be interesting to see how it matures.
I really like them both.

What a pretty plant!! Dana is right, the foliage is gorgeous in its own right. I read "suckers" and thought, now you're going to snip some of those off & root them for us, right? LOL!
CritterO,
Yes, I think I will put a few leaves of this one down to keep & share. It is a really nice plant to grow.Very easy.
MsC
very beautiful. Perfectly shaped plant. Is that a plastic plate I see peeking under the leaves?
