Hello from Kentucky- need advice on a skunk -

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hi guys- Hoping some of you may be able to help me with a little stinky problem I have- Thanks

I'm visiting with my mom in Kentucky and we've come across a tiny skunk (about the size of a hand- full fur and able to spray) without it's mom. We were hoping the mom would come back after dark and claim her baby but she didn't. We found it again two days later. We've been feeding it canned cat food when we see it. It does spend a good deal of time hiding, but does come out. It looks healthy and alert. It looks as if the mom won't be coming back for it. There are NO wildlife rehabilators in this area. The closest one is over 100 miles away and her cages are full. After talking to two wildlife rehab. people it is clear this little guy needs a milk replacer. Although it seems odd to me since he's made it almost a week and he's pretty spunky. Anyone have any suggestions? Should we get the little guy and cage him? We are aware of rabies/parasites/? so we would take all safety precautions. Once we get the guy would he be able to be released? How would one go about releasing a fully scented skunk? My mom has dogs so opening the cage and hoping for the best won't work.

I'm on a dial up/old computer so researching this is painfully slow and frustrating. Any tips or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kristi

p.s. I posted this on the wildlife forum too.
