Cecropia Silkmoth cat

Boise, ID(Zone 7a)

Boy was I shocked to find this munching away on my tree. He (or she?) is certainly unique and I hope "it" hangs around long enough to change. The $5 bill gives some perspective of size but the coloring is like something I would make from polymer clay!

Wow what a unique looking critter! Lucky you!

Those are so cool! I just don't have enough different trees to see them here. I did try to raise some last year, but they didn't make it. They are beautiful cats!

Do you think yours is a molt ahead of mine or visa versa? I know they start out as black prickly cats and yours still has spines on the knobs (are we sure we're talking about caterpillars? ;-)

I can't find mine now. I'm afraid it may have become a very big meal for the birds. I'm thinking good thoughts, though and will continue to search every night for a gorgeous moth.

This pic is from when I tried to raise some from eggs that a friend sent me. They didn't make it tho. :( Mine looks smaller than yours and since mine didn't pupate I'm sure yours is in a later instar. Yours probably disappeared to make it's cocoon, just going to by its size.
