She's at it again...

Little 'Mathilde' is at it again. My plant sure isn't big, but it blooms A LOT.

Here she is just getting started...

Very nice! I just put mine on a trellis yesterday and it has a couple of bloom spurs, can't wait to see them in person. :)

Oh, that is just sooooo darling! Do the flowers open more than that eventually or is that about the most they go? I had a hoya serpens bloom for the first time this year and it seems the flowers never did open wide. It was a delightful flower however and I loved the smell of it too. Must be that the 'Mathilde' got the best of both parents.
I recently ordered one of them, so I am glad you posted this pic. Can't wait to get mine now.
Cindy, how long have you had yours, & where did you get it from?
Christina, what kind of camera do you use & what setting do you use. I love the way your pictures come out. You even got the little hairs on the stem. WOW.
I have a really nice camera, but have never been able to get shots like that. Even when I use the macro setting. Must be I am doing it wrong. I only use the automatic adjustment though.

Marcy, I got mine from Paul Shirley about 1 1/2 yrs ago something like that!

Marcy, my camera is a Samsung Digimax V4 and it has been one of the best investments I've made. I bought it in April 2003 and it can still compete with the fancier ones. I've looked for a new one, but so far I haven't found one that can beat my Samsung.

I'm quite "lazy" when I take photos. I often use the preset macro (6 cm) and just push the button. Sometimes I only get 5 good photos out of 50 because I don't look - I just shoot! In stead of moving my plants to a better and more suitable place for photographing I just hold the camera under the flowers and a lot of times I only get half the umbel...

I hardly consider myself a photographer, but I sure am enjoying myself when I take photos. I like trying different lights and the day I found the white balance on the camera - well, that's when the odds went up 5 out of 50!

I think of photographing as a way to have a lot of fun.

Edited to say that I will take a new photo of it tomorrow when the flowers are fully opened.

It's very beautiful Christina. Does it have a nice fragrance?

Beautiful flower and pics!! That might be a hoya I need to add to my collection especially if it is a good bloomer.

My tiny little 3 nodes are growing....and I can't wait!!! Especially when it is of such wierd parentage....H. serpens and H. carnosa. Who would have thought?

Here she is fully opened. Just took the photo.

Lovely flower, Christina. Thanks for sharing. :)

That is just beautiful. It seems to look the most like the carnosa flower only with the "furryness" of the serpen's flower. Now my question is, does it smell most like the carnosa (which I don't really care for), or like the serpens (which I truly LOVE the smell of)?

Marcy, I think that when the flowers are fresh they smell more like serpens, but the older the flowers get they start smelling more and more like carnosa. I'm no fan of serpens fragrance, but I really like carnosas. However, the combination of the two fragrances is okay.

Here you can see both parents and the baby. This was in the magazine recently, but I thought others might like the comparison.

Thanks for the comments about the photos. Photos don't do 'Mathilde' justice...

Speaking of photos, ahem,.... Christina.... The Plant DataBase (PlantFiles) is always looking for new photos...and while I beat that drum, I am remiss in posting many of mine. But I just wanted to let you (and everyone) know that they are a wonderful source for photos...made more wonderful when we put photos up. hint hint nudge nudge wink wink.

Carol, I knew you would mention this eventually. And quite discretely too!

I have added some photos to the PlantFiles:

Anyone in particular that you'd like to see there?

Christina

Essentially, Christina, if you've got a nice picture of a hoya bloom or even leaves, it would be wonderful if you could post it. And I've seen some very nice pictures from you, so post as many as you want, or as many as you have, or as many as you would like to post.... It doesn't matter if there's already a picture of that hoya in the database, yours will be just as special and welcome.

Heh heh - I will if you will, Christina. I just took a slew of new photos for my website and will post those appropriate...but it may be after I get back...mid Sept.
