We had decided to trade flowers and she brought over a vine with a sort of complicated leaf on it. She does not know the botanical name, but described it as being a perennial which comes up late in the spring ... as late as June. She described the flowers as having small purple centers and white overlapped petals along the edge. She gave the size of flower to be about as big as a 50 cent piece. She said it's history is related to the crucifixion. The man who originally gave it to her husband is in his 80's. What have I got here? My resources do not recognize her term "passion vine" and I do not know what it is. Will have to get it into the ground before the end of September if I want it to come back in the spring. Thanks to any and all replies to this identification.

the passionflower most closely related to the crucifixion is Passflora incarnata, http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1189/index.html
