Hello friends,
SORRY THIS IS LONG!
Sorry I haven't been around much but so much has been happening I haven't had much time to be on the puter these past few months.
As some of you might remember, I'm one who's alway looking at the Pets for Sale classifieds even though I'm really not shopping for a pet. Its a habit of mine I guess but from time to time I find ads where someone is giving away a purebred dog breed so I do a search for the closest rescue representative for that particular breed in this area or closest & then try to contact them to notify them that this dog needs help/rescue. My thinking is that I am helping this dog go to a good home via the rescue group instead of just anyone who might reply to the ad for a free dog. For example, just a few weeks ago, in a local freecycle group was an ad for two purebred boxers. They were male & female, 4 &5 yrs. old, not spayed or neutered & were being given away because the couple was going thru a nasty divorce. Afterwards, the lady pleaded everyone to stop sending her emails because she got bombarded with offers to take them. I can only guess how many of those people wanted them for breeding so they could make money of them.
Anyhow, this is the reason I try to contact rescue groups. As some of you may remember, I spent two years searching on Petfinder & Westie Rescue groups for a suitable Westie in need of adoption that was close by. I quickly learned that many rescue groups would not even consider our family in adopting one simply because we have kids or they were under age 10. Mine are now 6,5 & 3. So after giving up & pleading with DH, we got him to break down & buy us a puppy. Aggie is now 18 mo. & gets along great with the kids & even the cat Icehouse. I guess after spending almost two years searching Petfinder daily, I still haven't broken off the habit of checking there once in a while with the off chance there might be a Westie near us. So on Friday I was looking and found the sweetest Westie that appeared to need a home desperately. This little guy sounded like he has the same temperment as our Aggie & would fit our home perfectly. The only problem was that he was about 6 hrs. away and with gas prices as they are now & kids starting school today. I knew I couldn't make a trip right now so I got on the web & jotted many Westie rescue volunteer names & emailed them all this little guys info. I then emailed the shelter to notify them of what I had done so they would expect a contact. Well, I just now received an email from the shelter that said, "Yes they did contact us and found the suitable condition for him and made arrangements for transportation Saturday! thanks also for you interest in this great boy.Thanks again!".
I am so happy for this little guy. This has really made my day knowing he's going to get some help finding a great home. I sure wish he had been a bit closer but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Below is the link so you can read his Petfinder story;
