My worst loss for 2005 has to be the loss of one seedling in particular. It was one of Anne's Angel's Paradise x ? that grew to be variegated. I dreamed of a double pink variegated brug. It grew so strong and beautifully thru 27 days of rain and very little sun. I never dreamed she was drowning until the rains went away. When the sun came back quite a few beautiful seedlings died a slow death, top to bottom, one by one from root rot. This AP X ? was the last to go. I thought I would die from a broken heart over this one.
I did learn a hard lesson about root rot but I could have lived without the lesson.
What is your brug sob story for 2005?
Awwwww Vicki, I'm so sorry .
Hugs
Don't you have a sob story Scoot?
Am I the only sob here? Don't answer that ... rofl!
Ohhhh!! I had a rooted cutting of something (don't remember now the name) that was crushed during a rainstorm by a falling tree limb. Nothing at ALL left of the poor thing!!! waaaa sob sob!!
Think my murdered Brug was Tropical Sunset--anyway it was a cutting I had gotten the previous Fall and so I never got to see it bloom!! waaaaaaaaaaaa I absolutely HATE that!! I wanted to SUE my landlord over it! hehehe
My Arborea is dying a slow death from the top down. Would it help to cut the dead/dying part off and see if it comes out from the trunk?
Edited to say, Vicki I'm so sorry about the variegated one. I know you had high hopes for it.

LindaSC--what do you mean it is dying from the top down?? Maybe it only needs more water??? These plants need LOTS of water--not to stand in but they certainly ARE thirsty!! I hope that is all you need!! Have you fed it??
It needs more than water, if I was home I would post a photo. Same thing happened when I had a Sanguinea (sp?). They just can't take the heat and humidity. I even tried it inside and it didn't like that either.
I killed desiree......
I nursed her along for years
she finally bloomed in the GH but I missed it
and then the furnace broke.....and she croaked
yes....along with some others
you all have seen my ICU....LOL
so sad....sniff....snivel........
I have my pet rock ,that I won in the terminator contest ,sitting next to her stump
CC ... so funny!
OK, I'm gonna fess up that I paid way to much money (more than $69) for a rooted brug cutting at that auction place. And it didn't have any roots. I wondered why it died! I spent way too much money at that auction place this year lol!
i lost every every one of my seedlings i started from seeds- heat .. i think.. looked good then not. then dead..also no none blooms or buds nothing.. fed good to.. water... ???
LindaSC - one of my 2 Arborea seedlings started to die from the top down, so - and I was bold because I have 2 - I cut of the top and dumped cinnamon on the fresh cut. Success! It quit trying to die on me and has lots of side branches. The other one has an inch long bud. I have had more success with them by NOT watering as much as the other brugs.
Now for my sob... the one VixenX seedling that I managed to grow to adulthood, that Y'd at 3.5 feet and grew tiny buds - WILL NOT keep them. They never grow and eventually fall off. Now the plant is 6 feet tall and I planted it in the ground! sure that that would ensure blooms this year. I'll either have to dig it up or take cuttings and start over.
Thanks Eileen, I'll try that - nothing to lose.
Although I have only been a member for a year, and a Brug nut for almost that long all I can say is that anyone that does not have a sob story is NOT a Brug addict, because everything that goes wrong is a sob story, I have lost some of my best seedlings including a Maya, always stripping leaves because of BUGS, but the worst was having a Brug growing in a pot, on the back Patio, with Buds when a storm decided to show me what it could do, no need to tell more, I no longer have that Brug.

I walked out into the garden at daybreak one morning with a cup of coffee in my hand. Bleu my trusted companion(aka dog with big feet) came out with me. I spied a a flower down in the far corner of the garden, I couldn't tell exactly what it was but it was pink with red edges. I started walking that way and didn't see that a bunny rabbit was walking that way too(but Bleu my trusted companion with big feet saw him). The bunny saw the dog, the dog saw the bunny, the bunny ran into my flower garden and I'm not sure what happened next, it was bunny fur, pink double brugmansia with a red edge petals, dog hair, dirt, leaves flying everywhere. When the dust settled my plant was gone.........not even a picture. That's my tale, sad but true.
rofl ... poor Susie!
Por,por bleu
he takes the blame for everything.........LOL
Bleu doesn't look like he'd do anything wrong. I'll bet he was framed! Why weren't those Cabana boys helping you out? LOL
I had a little pity party for one over my Equador Pink, but it recovered from what I was certain was a death sentence. I'll take all the miracles I can get. LOL
Vicki, I know what you mean by that auction site. If my husband takes a look at what I've spent there he'll have me commited to the loony bin for sure. LOL He's been patient with my latest obsession. He's even setting up a winter headquarters in the garage so I can bring everyone in on those rare frost nights this winter.

I may be a newbie, but I've had a chance to screw-up. About a month ago, I thought that if brugs are such heavy feeders, maybe I should give them extra food.... I doubled the water-soluable fert. I don't have to wonder what a brug looks like that's had it's top blown off any longer. I have a living example in my back yard.
