She's pretty Donna!! I'd like to know about her parents too. Donna, all my cutting from you are blooming their head off, and my first ever Frosty Pink will be blooming tomorrow. Golfito and FP are so green and healthy, I love their dark foliage. My Monsters were put in the ground late, but they've bloomed, I LOVE them and their fragrance and they are catching up nicely from their late start...thanks!!!!!!!!

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

I love the dark pink color!!!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Beautiful Donna. You've got a winner there!!!

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Thats about as close as I've seen to red except some sangs I guess. Sure is dark.

How much does it open at night?

Myrtle Beach, SC

Awesome !!!
....love the color....I need a dark pink badly LOL :))

start mixing red food color in your water and fertilizer. It works with the old carrot experiment in science class. If you look at ferts with a high nitrogen number for foliage, they're always a darker blue. I still think the companys add dye of some sort so not only do the plants grow more foliage but it has that nice bluegreen look to it.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

She looks so long and so thin. A model! LOL. I sn' t that great that the new blooms are so white to contrast the older darker ones. I love that effect.

I guess you are home again, Donna!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Very pretty, Donna.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Those flowers are soooo long! I can picture an Angel blowing on those trumpets! Very pretty Donna.

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

JT has some really nice crosses out there :-) I love this one too! Congrats to you Donna and JT! I'll be watching to see what the parentage is on this one too.

Glad you're back and safe Donna :0)

I know you hate you missed the early stage bloom, but at least you have more to go. Please post followup photos when they open and turn.

My notes are that Pink Velvet = PB X EP

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Wow...these dark pinks many of you are photographing are *fabulous*!!!

I think I might just try that red food coloring experiment....maybe with a cutting, huh? Anyone else going to try? *Has* anyone tried it in the past?

LindaSC....I'm assuming PB = Pink Beauty?
What's EP? Have seen that on a couple of other threads and it's got me wondering......
TIA!

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

EP = Equidor Pink I believe.

The food coloring is just something that crossed my mind. Now that I think about it, don't they do that to carnations in florist shops to come up with the powder blue and lime greens?

I'm going to stop and get a bunch of red food coloring on the way home and start flooding one of the brugs in bloom. See what happens.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Linda is right. It's Pink Beauty x Ecuador Pink. That's a cross you can't go wrong with. That same pod produced 4 keepers.Pink Velvet,Velvet Rose,Flirtation and Santa Rosa. They differ a bit in tendril length, and color but all are nice.I believe PV has the largest bloom.
If you are a new hybridizer, try that cross. You are guaranteed some good ones.Every seedling from that pod would have been a keeper a couple of years ago.As it was
I hated to put some of them on the compost.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Thank you JT for sharing the crosses with us, not everyone will do this. You have some beauties there!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I bet that was hard to do JT. Did your grow them all out for 2 years before deciding which ones went to the compost pile??

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Gosh, I have that cross growing right here, in southeast Arky. Wow! There's never been a celebrity here, until now, lol!! I cannot wait until she blooms!!

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Yes Donna,I grew them all for two or more years.I still have a couple that I can't name and can't bear to compost.I guess some non brug neighbors will get those.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

JT, wish I was your neighbor.

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

Here's one of her sister seedlings, Velvet Rose, for comparison - picture taken this morning. VR has probably been my favorite brug this year as the heat and bugs have not bothered her a bit.

Sweet!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Ooooh, TomH, she is very pretty!!! I purchased that same cross from an organization and she hasn't bloomed yet, I cannot wait!! I would LOVE to see a photo of the named ones together, so I can dream which one mine will favor...

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

So very beautiful Tom, enjoy.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

beautiful Tom

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Nice!! and Brug bug free too! :o) Beautiful, both of them!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice one Tom. Very pretty.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

One of these days someone will get a true red.The further downline we go with these pink to pink crosses the closer we get.Now if only someone would splice in an Iochroma gene and get us a blue.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

lol!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Blue would definitely be nice......lol

What a nice surprise for you Donna upon arriving home. There is nothing like seeing pretty brug blooms for the first time to get one excited and happy.

Velvet Rose is also very pretty.

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)
