stuffed green peppers

Wilton, CA(Zone 9b)

A friend of mine is giving a dinner party serving all foods that would have been served in the fifties.I thought of stuffed peppers and stuffed cabbage leaves that Mom made; I haven't had either in Years. Is there a food from your past that you just haven't had for a really long time simply because you forget?

Stuffed Vegetables
(eggplant, green peppers, cabbage)
4 green peppers
Olive oil
1 onion chopped
1 lb ground beef or lamb (or ground turkey)
1 1/2 cups cooked rice
salt, pepper,
1/4 teaspoon each oregano & cumin seed
2 cups broth
3 tablespoons tomato paste
lemon juice
1/2 cup sour cream
2 teaspoons cornstarch

Cut tops from peppers, remove seeds. Brown onion and meat in oil. Mix w/rice and seasonings. Saute peppers in hot oil. Stuff peppers. Add peppers and broth to casserole, cover and cook gently until peppers are just tender. Stir tomato paste into broth; add lemon juice and seasoning to taste. Blend cornstarch with sour cream and stir into sauce. Cook gently until sauce is thickened.
