Bought a Greenhouse! Rion GH44

Clovis, NM(Zone 7a)

I just bought me a Rion GH44 Greenhouse off E-bay. It is the model with 2 windows and 2 doors. It also included the base, misting system, electronic temperature controls, and the 2 of the Rion shelves. I do have to pick it up but it was a deal that I couldn't pass up.

I'm really anxious to get started. If anybody has any tips or suggestions, please feel free to let me know!

Congrats!!!

Thanks!

I just finished setting the foundation in my backyard. Does anybody have any recommendations for a base material? Such as Rocks or what type of Mulch?

By the way, here is an image of the greenhouse I bought.

I bought one at the beginning of the year and I love mine! Pay close attention to the instructions and small print and get yourself a pair of gloves! LOL Congrats!

I would think pea gravel would be good

Awesome! The bad part is we have to travel and take it apart but at the price, it's ok. I pick it up tomorrow and will be able to assemble it Saturday or Sunday depending on my work schedule.

I also was able to talk the seller into taking the gravel for free. That will save me from having to buy rocks again.

Thanks!

Hey Jared, did you get your gh home yet? I didn't see this again until now. Did you buy a demo or was someone previously using it?

Hey again,
Things actually didn't go as planned. I was planning on leaving at 6 AM on Friday morning. One of my dads friends brought me a trailer around 10PM on Thursday night and told me "i think something is wrong with the lights". I ending up re-wiring the whole trailer and finished around midnight. When I hooked up the trailer, I found out that my truck also had problems with the trailer wiring harness. I worked on my truck until around 3AM and just wasn't able to get it working. I decieded that I would just wait until this next week to pick it up. I was really anxious to get it but sometimes things happen, haha.

Anyways, The greenhouse was used for one summer and someone was just selling it on e-bay. I noticed it wasn't that far away and I also thought it was a good deal. You can checkout a little more of the info at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7706982810&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Nice!

I put one together by myself and can offer some advice or help if you need it. If your trailer is big enough, you can actually haul the roof in one piece or a couple of sections. You put the roof together by itself then set it on. The base and sides go up pretty easy. All the pieces are held together with plastic T-pin things. It's actually pretty cool.

I'm sorry to hear about your truck and trailer problems. :(

Hmmm, I just looked. You got a great deal. Are you going to bring it home in one piece?

Clovis, NM(Zone 7a)

Thanks for offering the help. I'm not sure who difficult it is going to be, I dont think I will have any problem but you never know.

I know I won't have room to bring it home in a single-piece but I'm hoping to bring it in around 6 to 12 pieces. Hopefully I can keep as much together as possible. I didn't want to bring home the greenhouse in one piece because I was worried about it catching wind and flying off the trailer. So I decieded I would use a closed-box trailer so wind won't be a factor.

They really are not heavy at all, just awkward. I would think 2 men could lift it easily, but four would be better. Does it have the plastic base? I have mine screwed to railroad ties. LOL If you take it apart, be very careful with the pieces that snap over the edges of the polycarb panels. They are a real pain to pull off and if you don't do it just right, they will crack.

Will the owner be there to help at all or tell you the best way to take it down? If he does not have the original "tools" that came with it, you will want to take a few small allen wrenches. I still have my book too if you need a copy. If you need anything, E me. :)

Awesome! Thanks for the help.
It will be me and my grandfather taking it apart. It shouldn't be too tough, we are both in good shape and are pretty much do-it-yourselfers.

Yes, It does have the base. Thanks for the tip on the panels, I will be sure to be careful with them.

The owner should be there but I am not positive. I know they won't be helping us although. I don't think it will be too difficult to figure out but you never know. We are going to take our whole toolkit just in-case we need anything.

Thanks again!

Well I was able to make the trip this weekend to pick everything up. I got home yesterday and started assembling the greenhouse today. It hasn't been too bad so far. Does anybody have any advice for getting the plastic strips on the roof to secure the panels to the roof? I'm sure i'll be able to get them figured out but thought maybe someone has some good advice.

Hopefully I can get this up and start using it. I have finished everything but the panels on the roof! Can't wait!

Do you mean the trim pices that are rounded on top with the T shape, that fit into the grooves? If so, rubber mallet!

Clovis, NM(Zone 7a)

I was able to find it out. I felt like an idiot because it really wasn't that difficult haha. It is all setup right now. I just have a couple of finishing touches.

I do have another question you may be able to answer. Do you heat your greenhouse in the winter? If so, what type of source have you been using and also what are the costs of heating a greenhouse this size?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I didn't put mine up until the end of February, beginning of March. This year I only used it to start seeds and get the tropicals out earlier. I have not tried to over winter in it yet. I can tell you that a small electric space heater worked well. The greenhouse itself kept the temps 20 degrees above what they were outside on a mild day. I am thinking of insulating with the bubble sheets. I have a lot of plants to drag in that will not be happy if they go below 40.
